P38 gearbox

My 2003 dse2,5 while driving in D the red light is on but the N red light starts flickering, so tried 3 and it’s on ok but R is flickering, dash board the same the D is there but N flashes. Plugged in bearmach says transmission no faults, any ideas?

No idea as I jave the manual box but I might start with reading RAVE to see how to check the cable adjustment.

It’s 2001. We’ve had it for about 10 years. Had another second hand gearbox put in about 5 years ago

Could be dirty contracts in the xyz switch.. razz it R-1-R a few times with the ignition off, see if it clears

Is it safe to drive? I went about 100m and came straight home. Then I went up down drive about 10 times. If gearbox had no fluid or problem, bearmach would show a DTC right?

Dirty switch sounds most plausible I live in Kampala, serious dust.

Mine is a petrol, but I'd guess your gearbox is similar. I had a similar problem, was driving in D when the red light decided to flick to 1. Fortunately i wasn't driving fast enough to blow things up.
I should probably take the switch apart and clean it properly, but I've not got around to it yet.

So, physically it performs but electronically it bugs.. I would hazard a guess at the xyz switch as suggested

It can be taken apart and cleaned out, very common..

Mine used to play up and not select Reverse

A quick thrash up and down the shifter fixed it.
