Seating the crank shaft oil seal.

I fitted a timing belt to my 300tdi but it has started leaking oil from the wading plug hole in the timing cover. I assume the oil seal has gone in badly so need to do it again this weekend.

Could some of you experienced folk give me tips on the best method to seat them so as not to have this happen again.

I have the crank pulley that came off if this is any use to help seat it.

Fitted the seal, after the heads up from Mikeau at LRUK, where Britannica Mike uses an old crank pulley to seat the seal. I will take it for a run today and keep my fingers crossed.

Good quality seals help too, Gaco or Corteco non of those 34p ones

The seals were Corteco or "g" rated. The first one leaked quite badly so was either faulty or I fitted it badly. I have just checked and, after a good run, the new one is not leaking (thank f**k).
