HELP Needed Freelander Rear Lights

Hello hello,

I just bought a 2001 Freelander. Sounds bloody lovely, but there's a few electrical issues to wade through.

The rear lights.... which should be on? What's what? I can't seem to find anything.

1. What I do know is that reverse/fog lights seem to work is that unit just reverse/fog i.e they shouldn't illuminate just with head lights on?

2. The lights on the bumper indicator/rear? The rear left side light on the bumper doesn't work, tried changing the bulb but nada.

Any help would be brill!

Pending when this was last serviced or had parts replaced check fuses first next to the drivers right knee. Other than that you may need to replace the Brake Switch under the brake pedal arm. Have a feel with a torch for the unit. You can confirm by putting your driver seat fully forward and stick a solid bar between the footbrake and seat cushion if your'e on your own.

Reverse fog lights are separate and the fog lights too from the main button for main beam top left on the dash display

Thanks! Actually just for clarity, I think everything is working as it should apart from

the LEFT rear/brake light in the bumper - tried bulb, but nothing.

Bumper one might be the unit corroded wires. Test with a multimeter first. Also did you not question why this was not working from the seller.

I didn't give the car a proper check in my haste. To be fair, it wasn't super expensive.

Well your in luck as parts replacement is reasonable. Ranging cheap to WTF your joking right. Rimmer brother website can help most spares. And the information on here is second to none.

I wouldn't have bought it without this forum haha. I've put it into the garage to have a look at as I want it for a little (massive) trip up north this weekend.

The ABS the three amigos I think are all lit up too, diagnostics says it's the sensor, so that to do when i'm back.

Swap over the bulb holders from the other side if that one works ok then you know it's the bulb holder

The buld holders can be an issue. Recently one of my rear indicators stopped working. I changed the bulb, as you would, and it was still duff. I had to strip down the bulb holder and bend the terminals a little as they weren't making contact with the bulb properly.

I had a lighting problem tried bending the pins but still didn't work normally I can repair electrics but with it being a sealed unit it was easier to get a second hand holder for peñnies than mess about

If it was the brake switch you wouldn't have any lights on and there would be a couple of warning lights on the dash hill climb decent and the abs light

Mine has a similar problem - bulb holder for the brake/tail lamp bulb. As @kernowsvenski says, I also bent up the lower electrical tab to make contact with the bulb. Cheap, quick fix
