I cannot start my p38 as engine is disabled and I can't reset as I don't have a key for the door lock.

If I buy a door handle/lock with a key and the matching ignition lock, will this work for me ?

So you can still get in to the car then.
What made it disable its self?
As I have 2001 P38 and it started to give problems as the micro switches in the drivers door lock failed. So the car thought it was being stolen. The Computer thought the door was locked shut even though it was open so would not let me start the engine. I got round this by taking of drivers door card and then using a jumper wire to ground the offending micro switch. I replaced both my front door locks and have had no more problems.
As regards the door lock. A new lock barrel with matching key will help as you need this just to get in if the battery fails. My Range Rover belonged to a friend before I bought it off him. One time the battery went flat and he found the ignition key did not fit the door. He could not get in so had to get a land rover specialist to get in to the car. They fitted a new door lock that has a key. The EKA code can then be put in using the key. But the micro switches must be working to do this.
Hope this may help you.

Ok.
This is gonna be a bitter pill:(.
Take the docs to land rover stealer and order a new #1 key. Not cheap:eek:. That’s as long as it’s the original key/ignition/door lock/BECM.if not you will be paying a lot of money for a fob that won’t work. Or send it too someone who can match a fob to the BECM.

The EKA can be put in manually with the door card off.

Does your key fit the glove box lock?

Just entering the EKA may not sort it as you have no fob, our 2001 only needs key sync. The 95 needed EKA and nothing else, I am no eggsquirt.
I can’t think you have had this car for so long and not got another fob.

Never really need a fob.
Yes my key fits the glove box.

You might want to reconsider your need for a fob:).
As the key actually fits all the locks is a good sign.

Have you actually tried to put in the EKA with the door lock?
Look in the manual for the instructions, if it fails after 2 attempts open the door and close again otherwise you will wait longer and things may get worse.
You need to do a search for the EKA manually as I am not with my computer.

So just to recap, you have a working key that fits the door handle lock, you have the eka code.if this is correct then drop the driver's window enter the code as per the manual making sure you return the key to the 12 o'clock position between lock and unlock moves.as you turn to lock or unlock use the cill button to make sure the mechanism travels it's full distance.I think @DanClarke did a guide that's helped. Try the search facility top right of the page.;)
