Tyre Air Compressors

Dear All,

Am wanting to buy a 12v / 240v tyre air compressor. Seen this 12v jobbie for £27, like the 3m power lead and 5m air line https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/p/streetwize-kruga-air-compressor-with-5m-hose-gauge-550993230

Or a combined booster pack/air compressor...what recommendations do you have?

My rule of thumb with 12v compressors is, if it has a cig lighetr plug it aint man enough!

I have a T Max that has clips to put it straight on the battery and will inflate a Defender tyre in around 6 minutes from flat.

Plus 1 to the T max tyre compressor , also has no problem inflating my tyres and agree ref if it plugs into the cig lighter ur wasting ur money

Though if it inflates a Landy tyre to 32psi in 2min20secs, how long to inflate explode my bicycle tyres...?

Sealey probably do the best of the standard run of 12V compressors. I have one with a lighter plug that's sort of ok for occasional use. Cost about £50

They do another one with croc clips that has about twice the output for a bit more than twice as much money.

I got a £20 ciggy lighter one from halfrauds.. only because it was free

I would say you've made a good choice there. I've got one of those cig lighter plug in ones which is fine for the car or the trailer wheels, but I can confirm that it would frustrate the hell out of you for the Landy. I pumped up the tyres on mine with it once and they weren't even completely flat, it took 20 minutes each.

+1 for the T-max compressor. Very good bit of kit. Not the lightest but that’s reflected in its performance.

I have a ciggy lighter type, can't remember the make at the mo, was advertised as having the capability of inflating a tractor tyre without overheating.
Anyway I've found it to be pretty good, will inflate a flat Landy tyre in less than 5 mins, I used to use it on trials to reinflate before hitting the road, so over the years it has had loads of use. Must be 20 years old by now.
I bought a cheapo Michelin inflator a couple of years ago just to sling in the back of the Rangie, don't care how long that takes to inflate a tyre so long as it eventually does.

I got ‘Ring’ ciggy lighter one from screwfix £20.

Okay to top pressures up, will pump up one tyre from flat (275/75/16) You then have to give it a breather to cool down or it will either blow a fuse somewhere or when you take the plug out will burn your hand. Once it gets hot doesn’t produce much pressure either. Best to pull the valve out if it’s flat or it could possibly melt the flexi pipe that goes on the wheel.
One I had before was a foot pump so it has lasted despite the amount of abuse it’s had. Think this is mainly due to fact it came with decent case packed with silica gel. have dropped it in muddy puddles few times and it’s still going

I'd disagree there. My 12V tyre pump works just fine, and is fast. It's not one of those horrible geared screaming tyre inflator either, it's much like the D3/4 suspension compressor, with a 30mm diameter piston, and large direct drive motor.
It has a 12 V car power plug, but it as draws 15 Amps, so doesn't work in all car power sockets, where this power isn't available.

Tbh most cig lighter wiring I have come across is pathetically small cross section, no idea what most are fused at 5 maybe 10 amp at best?

Tried topping pressures up today. Blew 30a fuse on becm fusebox
I’m out of 30a fuses so starting to wish I had a foot pump. Borrowed one of the screen demister fuses for now
Fuse in cig lighter connector fine just hot. I’d rather the pump fuse be blowing than anything on the vehicle

This +1 - I looked at this, most are 10A max' current draw :. only really effective for bicycles and inflatable camp beds.

In other news, the TMax arrived today...gave it a test drive. It's made of "girders...!"
