Hi all!
After sitting back and watching the hubster spend every last Penny on his beloved 109 for the last 15 years, I finally have my very own and I am smitten

He has a 1963 2a 109 ex winch truck and a 1967 2a 109 FFR ex MOD and I now have my very own 1983 Series 3 109 FFR which I will absolutely try to add a picture of if I figure out how

She was much loved by her previous owner who is not only absolutely lovely but so full of information that I’m not too daunted about any of the recommissioning of her but I have to say I am hugely nervous of when the time comes to repaint her this summer!!

I think I will be making this forum my bedtime reading for some time

I am based in South Somerset and am always happy to learn more about these beautiful beasties so if you are down this way and have any words of wisdom feel free to holler at me.

Welcome, thats an interesting paint job. Any idea what it is? Looks too good a patina to paint over IMO :)

it’s Berlin brigade. I looked up urban camouflage the other day and actually found her picture on Wikipedia. Close up it’s peeling off really badly in places so definitely needs redoing but I’m going to keep her the same colours and I do love that she is a bit different.

Welcome. Nice big beastie.

There seems to be artistic licence with the Berlin Brigade colours on Land Rovers. I've seen several different takes on it online. :) I Served there in the 80s, but don't recall seeing it on anything but armoured vehicles.
The tankies at Bovington have Berlin Brigade colour codes as
White = RAL9010,
Blue-grey = RAL7031,
Brown = RAL8025

Maybe just take her back a bit to stop the worst flaking , and clear coat her? Btw what is she called?

Addit: Did you get her MERLIN report. That way you can trace her history.

Wow nice threads! Aye with the colour just tidy a bit and clear coat. Or if your handy with polish a good buff. Inside drag out any drunk soldiers still carrying and wash out. If there any hole the water will find it easy enough. Welcome to the forum of dreams.

That’s really helpful regarding the colours thank you so much ☺️ I hadn’t seen this colouring on anything at all before but when we went to look at the Land Rover she was parked up with for my husband I fell a bit in love with her! Especially how unique she looked. So I definitely have to keep the colouring.

I think the biggest problem I’m going to have is that the gentleman who painted her mixed the colours to as best as he could using Hamerite so it’s going to be impossible to match them and also I want to use the proper paint so it’s going to need to go quite far back on it I think. Will
Definitely be trawling through the repainting threads when the time comes!
First things first after all this rain my first job is reproofing the tilt when we get a dry few days. Right now I have a good size paddling pool in the tub every time it rains hard

with regards to her name I’m still trying to think of one for her. May need suggestions on that one!

How about Alli , looking at her plate. And she has seriously ally* colours

* military for something that is cool.

I did yes. She was based with the military police reserves from her entire time and from what I can gather never left the UK. She was with 116 Provost Company RMP from 83 to 97.
Just seen this. Then strictly she is in wrong dress. Did wonder when I saw right hand drive.
I worked out of 116 in the early 90s. Who knows I may even have driven her, but I'll definitely have known her. Small world .

That’s so lovely to know that you may have even driven her! Her number plate was 64KB12. I may have a picture of her in her original dress I will just have a quick look. I’m pretty sure I was sent one.

Thanks for the welcome

I’ve been busy clearing out the back of her and tidying up/sanding back the inside for a repaint and waiting for the next dry spell to rewaterproof the tilt. I’m also having an internal battle re the repainting of the outside of her at the minute

Welcome back :) I feel a special affinity with this girl knowing we Served out of the same location, and she may be one I have driven. I used the offices and equipment at 116 Pro Coy, for almost a year.
I'd say , if you want to repaint her, go purist. Take her back to her work dress. Orrrrrrrrrrr , you could appreciate the paint work she has now , keep her patina, rub down to get loose paint off, then clear coat. :)
