What have you done to your Freelander today

took hacksaw to errant front-bolt on starter motor
removed starter ..
removed broken regulator shaft from the h.p.pump

replacement fuel-regulator n' starter motor on hand
nuts n bolts in various coffee jars since last year ..
hope i can remember which go with what part ;-]

Sold it... while i was enjoying the challenges it presented, it was the good wifes motor and it was time for her to move on.
Replaced with a 2016 F-Pace portfolio. different car altogether. i have to go and get a sim card for it!?!?

Bought some 18" sport alloys for the TD4 and broke the D3 in the process, oops

Finally got my new G015s fitted today. Hoorah! Had the tracking done too. Now my steering wheel isn't central. Boooo.

Never found a tyre centre that can put the steering wheel right!!
I took one car back 7 times and it was still wrong. Basic problem I think is that the road camber changes things from the flat workshop floor.

I use a digital vernier on the track rod ends to measure each side when tracking has been done, then simply add a mm one side and take it off the other side to centre the wheel and keep the tracking dimension.

Top tip Andy. I might try that at some point. I'll go back to the tyre fitters first though.

If the steering isn't straight, then this suggests they didn't adjust both sides equally, or didn't secure the steering wheel perfectly central when they did the tracking. There's no camber compensation applied to the FL1 steering, so on a highly cambered road, the wheel will be slightly off centre, but on a flat road, the wheel should be perfectly straight ahead.
I tend to fine adjust the wheel myself, as tracking places can never get it spot on.

Trying to decide whether to sell it to some other FL2 aficionado now, or wait a few months, by which time it will have the kudos of having done over 200,000 miles.

Or I might just keep it.

I hate it when this happens, they obviously didn't do it properly, I had to Center it myself after getting it aligned at a so called pro outfit...

Buy a trackace and adjust the wheels yourself. Got mine years ago.

Will it work on the rears too?

Never heard of it. I just Googled. It looks good value at about £75. It'll pay for itself if you use it twice. How accurate and robust is it?

No complaints with mine. Accuracy is done to how precise you set it up. There's video's of how to use it on youtube.

Many years ago I couldn't find someone to do a full 4 wheel alignment, so I used a trackace on both front and rear wheels on my FL1. It's only for use on the fronts, but I put two perfect parallel fishing lines down the side of my hippo, and set the rears straight, then adjusted with the trackace anorl. Worked ok for me.

Yes and no. It's o'fishally only for use on the front wheels. If you read the post above... I cheated and used it on the rears anorl.

Did you remove one of the rubber seals from each of the bearings & put some grease in ? The ones I got from Bell eng. (along with a vcu) only lasted about 5,000 miles !
I got another set (aftermarket) & removed a seal in each bearing to find next to no grease so I re-packed them with some decent high load grease & they've done 30,000 miles since without issue. (Might not be an issue if you used genuine hangers).

Some more trackace info I wrote some time ago. You only need the fishing line parallel lines if you want to adjust the rears.

I had a set supplied by Bell. One lasted about 10k, the other about 35k. The short life could have been down to alignment, or poor quality. No real way for me to know.

I did both today. Fitted GKN ones but didn't pack in any extra grease. I didn't want to move the seals.

Wash and window clean, took it for a spin on the M62 and M60 went like a train
