That's what I've done with the FL1 with it's slipping gearbox, 2x locked shut rear doors, and clumping sunroof...while I decide what to do with it..... really don't like crawling around on a wet cold floor in the dark...

I need to get it serviceable before the Mazda lease is up, which is February, so it's got to get done, even if it's cold and wet. :(

I might look at it over the Christmas break, as I'm off work for a couple of weeks.

Right it's home.
And a bit of an insight as to the issue from the recovery driver. As I was being winched up on to the lorry bed, he noticed that as one wheel was dragging in one direction, the opposite side was dragging the other direction.
So this says to me that the pinion on the diff, or possibly the Haldex has seized, effectively forcing both rear wheels to fight each other through the differential planet gears.

What a game ah!

Do you remember what way up the adjusters are on yours?

Mine the nearside (LH) adjuster was screw up.
The offside (RH) was screw down.

I can't find any reference to this in the service manual, and the pictures in the are of the nearside, where the screw is up.
So being unsure of the correct orientation, I put it back the way it came out.

Ey up Nodge
I can vaguely recall they were the same as your motor, LH "up" and RH "down"

Seems you're having a right mission with this FL2, a L322 would be less trouble lol

As a quicky, maybe can you disconnect the haldex plug, it might be stuck on electronicly....also from having haldex on a vw can you access it in diags. You can turn it on/off run the pump etc...etc.. worth a try.

But is looking like a duff diff from what You say
...so LR got rid of the VCU and replaced it with a rear diff made of jelly...

Sorry if this is a stupid question as I know almost nothing about FL2's but can the Haldex be unbolted so the car can run in Mondo Mode?

I can't see a reason why the whole diff/Haldex could be removed, much like it could with the FL1. However unless the Haldex is present, there will always a warning on the dash, which could fail the MOT.

I'm going to pull the diff/Haldex, and see what's wrong with it, but I'm expecting it to be something big, as it's locking the wheels up.

feel your pain Nodge - when i used to build race engines the ones that built no bother where good - the ones that were a right pain in the left one and gave me all sorts of problems were flying machines - holding out on this for you and the FL2 good luck

I have a Freelander 2 (2014 with electronic hand brake) Can anyone please tell me are the brake pistons wind-in (they have three slots so look like it) or can they be pushed in with a G clamp? Someone mentioned a "service mode" but I don't have any electronic gizmos to plug in so can they be done without any electronic wizardry?

afraid not they have to be wound back well back out of the way to change the pads then calibrated back in again as such.
to try and force them you will end up damaging the motor
check out the SDD post in the general section, probably the cheapest option to get you what you need

Did you ever get this sorted Nodge??
The rear diff, yes. I ended up replacing it with one out of a 2015 Evoque, as the pinion bearings were seized solid. There was no oil in the diff, not one drop, and it was a replacement diff, as it had reconditioner markings inside. The diff was scrap, as the pinion gear and crownwheel were massively worn, not surprisingly.
The Haldex was filled with oil, presumably what should have gone in the diff, so that isn't happy either.
These cars are great, but only if the muppet with the spanners knows what he's doing.

I agree with that last statement lol

Wish I'd have seen this before I did mine.

Got told it had a handbrake fault. Turns out callers had seized cans and the shoes had given up. Nice being able to park again and have a fully functioning handbrake.
