Hi. Newbie member so apologies if this has been asked before.

I have a P38 2.5TD Manual here in Spain with overheating issues (See my post in the P38 Forum) It may need major engine surgery, and I am advised that an engine swap may be cheaper. Engines and Labour here in Spain are relatively cheap.

Diesel Rangeys are relatively scarce in Spanish breakers yards, BMWs are not. I know NOTHING about BMs so would be grateful if anyone could advise what Models engines would be a relatively straight swap into the P38 if at all???

Thanking you in advance.............

This part of the forum is for the Land Rover 19J diesel turbo engine as fitted to the early 90 and 110s. You'd get a better chance of an answer by posting this in the Range Rover section. Your engine is a BMW unit ( though I can't remember what code or what vehicles it was used in) so you should be able to source a block from a car and transplant it in, possibly using some of the ancillaries from your Range Rover engine. The P38 diesel engine was also used in the Vauxhall (Opel) Omega IIRC.

IT is the m51 engine but has a few differences to make it suit the p38, as said best to ask in range rover section,
as mentioned vauxhall omega is same engine the injection pump is different spec to the bmw cars and you need the pump with the code ending 944
