Hi All

Sorry for the stupid question but hope you might be able to help. Last night I noticed a squeezing a couple of times whilst going uphill. 2.5n/a

after looking around on here I think it may be the UJs. But I don’t really know what I’m looking for. Should the prop shafts have any play in them?. The front is firm but the rear has some play?.
Anything else to look for?.

Could be a drive belt making the noise, or clutch plate slipping. UJ would more likely give a clicking or clunking noise and or vibration.

If the noise is coming from a UJ, it is knackered.
To check, jack one wheel just off the ground and rock the wheel back and forth. while you do this you or a helper look at the UJ's and look for slop in the joint, there should be none.
Do it at both ends to check both props.
Don't go under the vehicle unless it is properly supported on axle-stands. (You probably already know this.)

Do you know when they were last greased?

Thanks for the reply guys. It hasn’t made the noise again yet.. Feel stupid but maybe it was just a wet belt. It was p***ing it down when I heard it. Will report back if the problem comes back!. Servicing tomorrow so will have a good look at the UJs anyhow.

One of the problems with UJ's is when greasing them you can find that one journal can be and look dry. [ often it has partially seized and heated up, driving out what lube that was in it. ] When cool it is quiet but soon starts the canary chirp when driven again. You can bet that when you try and grease it the grease will go to the other three journals but not the one that need it. Replacement is only answer.
