been looking to see if i can sort out the aircon all by my ownsome.. seems like its not viable
i'll need to reverse flush the system (excluding the compressor, condenser and drier) then put a vacuum on it to test for leaks and also to dry the system
only then can it be re-gassed
Depends if you know any friendly aircon guys. My old local was willing to clear the system after I fixed it myself. I needed a condenser and a few hard lines to sort mine... these days I probably need to add a compressor to the list.

If anyone is interested i have a set of 5 Comet 18 inch Vogue SE alloys with excellent tyres just come back from the refurber's and are mint, balanced and new centre caps READY TO FIT.
They are surplus to me now as ive given up on having a P38 now so all my other stuff will be sold on too.

They will be collect ONLY from Swindon area due to size and weight and prevents any damage in transit. These are better than brand new now. Genuine Landrover Sparkle silver colour.

as ive given up on having a P38 now so
Although I like the sound of the wheels this saddens me. You shouldn’t give up on your quest, just realise there are no minters to your standard you will pay silly money for the same issues we all have. This shouldn’t put you off it is part of the parcel of ownership of these vehicles and you know you’ve always wanted one. I took the plunge on a non runner and it’s been worth all the heartache. Find one you like that runs with full mot and get it, you can bin it in 12 months but I think you’ll feel differently by than :)

Totally agree. Once you start driving the bug bites and bites deep

Totally agree, I know your minds made up Brendan but as DT says, find a goodish one and make it a minter like you did with all of your classic motors. What else are you going to do with your time. I paid good money for that import but always thought I’d need to spend on it to get it to a standard acceptable to me. Don’t give up on a P38 mate. Keep the kit you have and let the dust settle!

Any mint/like new p38 with all issues fixed is going to be above the average market value of a more typical example, because, they are few and far between, if you want it stump up the cash.
There is a nice Vogue in gold on Car and Classic, if only:(

Put them in the For Sale section.

just swapped back to a known good viscous coupling, lets see if the temp stays more stable. failing that, maybe the 'stat is getting a bit slow, or not opening fully

Put them to the back of the garage, you will need them:). You haven't really given up your just disgruntled at the moment. One will turn up when you least expect.

As has been said by many and me you will be the 1 to make it mint as any will not be fully showroom (your standard) till you have it in your garage.
So accept some minor issues as long as body is good then the rest is easy with all the help on here.

Unless you are moving to the L322/405 TDV8 8speed:D:D:D:D as i must admit there is a huge diff so wouldn't blame you. But of course the warnings are still the same, a badly maintained 1 will eat contents of your wallet for coffee break before moving on to lunch:eek:.

apparently the viscous units should be stored vertically, or they will likely die.
