Disco 2 Buying 16” rims - what can I get away with

Firstly, sorry for another tyre/wheel size question. All of the links to info on wheel sizing that I’ve found in older posts are no longer valid - so here goes.

I’ve been running 255 AT3’s on my Std 18” alloys since buying the car but a flat today revealed a damaged rim and I’m biting the bullet and buying some 16” rims to put slightly more aggressive tyres on - mud terrain or Insa

Ive found some disco 2 alloys with 235/70 tyres on - my question is; what tyre width can I go up to on these alloys? Will they take 255/265 or do I need to look at modular rims?

My D2 has rear air (working!) and 2” lift but std arches so far

I had 265/75/16 bfg on mine without issues. No mods on it.

Which D2 16 inch alloys have you got ?
There are 7 inch wide & 8 inch wide LR alloys. The 7 inch are best with 235 or 245 wide tyres, the 8 inch 255 upto perhaps 285 wide tyres.

I haven’t bought them yet - hoping to have a look today as they’re local. I’m assuming they’re the 7” version as they have 235 width road tyres on at the moment but not 100%

Where they the stock LR 16” alloys and what tyres did you have on them before you put the new tyres on?

8j will take a 245/75/16 but they bulge out a bit and i think lose a bit of height. 245 and below use a 7j, over that use 8j

I’m thinking that 245/75/16 is probably where I’ll end up

Got a set of 5 16x8 disco 6 spokes with 255 Road tyres on if you want to travel up to Blackpool

Very tempted- but Southampton to Blackpool is a bugger of a drive!
If I can swing a visit to my office in Burnley soon and you still have them I’ll let you know!
