Hi all,

i haven't had a Discovery for ages, but took the plunge and purchased a low mileage ex-Japan Disco 1, 1997.
Very happy with it, absolutely no corrosion anywhere on it. there's a couple of minor marks on the paint, but hey it is nearly 25 years old!
Anyway, i want to convert the odometer to Miles rather than Km, i fitted a standard UK MPH speedo head, and that is fine, but, the odometer is still recording at Km rather than Miles.
So how do i change to miles, the cable, the gear for the cable in the gearbox (auto box) or the electronic transducer?

Any help is really appreciated.

many thanks

Regards
Simon

Having two rusty Disco 1s I am dead jealous, well done mate!!
You could pay to get it done, Lord knows how much it would cost,

Loads on here.
But if it was me I'd just live with converting kms travelled to miles travelled by multiplying by 8 and dividing by 5.
If your new speedo has both on it, it makes a kind of ready-reckoner!
On the Disco 2 you can change the tripmeter (Not the odometer) to either kms travelled or miles travelled, just by holding the reset button down for a little while, dunno if that works on a D1, never needed to try it!
But that only works for cars from certain countries.

Very strange, a MPH speedo head should show the total vehicle distance in miles and also the trip counter in miles.
I assume you didn’t by the head new, therefore is it possible that u have Km head, and has a speed decal change from 120km/h to135mph its not unknown.

STC3965 is the correct speedometer- 135mph

Your vehicle has a transducer, which is attached to the transfer box.

I've got Jap import, and all I did was swap speedo head unit complete. The importer had done the same as yours and swapped the dial face only.

All Jap imports come with the speedo head in Km.
As long as you point it out distance in Km,s is acceptable for MOT.
On my Jap a disco 1 I mounted my Tom Tom on the RHS of the screen just above the instrument panel,
Much more accurate for checking speed.
Still do the same with Tomtom on my Disco 2
