Turns out it was not bricked, just takes a very long time (20 mins+) to flash. I did not expect that.
After reflashing with correct files I managed to do it properly, recover and pimped the cluster.

Edit - removed post as it was instruction on how to use VirtualBox - dont lol in hind site as Pro points out below it syncs time with host, my 130 fell over after sorting the screen resolution and lettign VB take over as such. back to square 1...

Virtualbox was considered, but even after setting it to not sync time it will still do it. There is a way around it to set date at reboot, but it's dirty.
I will update the lr folder on gdrive to use vmware player, where you can add a printer to as well :)
It will be one click ready to go all you need is the mongoose.

ohh date thing - didn't spot that. there is a batch file on my SDD130 is that what you are referring to? I take it 160 will expire at some stage?
and i need to get the batch file carried over?

loaded up the old session by manually putting in the VIN number - work is sooo busy today....

We found version 139.08 to be better than 160 and 130. 130 is quite limited in terms of programming for example (still works but options missing)
160 has lots of functionalities removed.
139 is the sweet spot.
But for 160 you don't need the date to be backwards, will work with 2021 fine.

And since this is a FL2 might want to program that cluster to get more info like instant mpg, clock on cluster, battery voltage, digital speed and gear indicator in automatics

You should post that cool information packed picture you sent me. ;)

The PDF guide explains very nice you don't have to be a savvy actually please check it out and highlight if something is not clear, I will update the document.

Or perhaps I should use pictures...

It looks easy enough, even for me.
Thanks for taking the time to do it.
Question. Does this version of SDD contain the files to upgrade the Ipack?

Great stuff pro. Can i ask what date is required for 139?
I looked at VMplayer but as my windows 10 is 32 bit it got messy so i looked at Virtual Box again, got it sorted with a few extra steps, basically I have to stop the VB service on the VM and then run the batch file, which i modded for 2021 to keep SDD160 going. My 130 came back with the date corrected thankfully.

Thanks again.

With a lot of help from PRO, I've got SDD up and running with my car. Before attempting to do too much I want to get a battery charger to keep the voltage up while tinkering. Can anyone recommend any particular charger to use or what to avoid?

I've been looking at this one however the instructions say only to use with the battery disconnected from the vehicle, not sure if that's just standard rubbish to cover themselves or if I'm actually risking damage by not disconnecting it.

Thoughts?

I am not sure if battery chargers cut it. SDD needs 12.5V before it kicks into updates, even my heavy duty battery charger only puts out 11.8V going by SDD, so a PSU is a safe bet unless you can confirm what voltage it puts out. The stated 12V is just what battery it is for.
That said I was gettign the caravan ready and when you turn mains on and the on board battery charger kicks in the battery meter reads about 14V (analogue gauge not sure how accurate it is).
I have just left all my kit into work for calibration, when it comes back i intend to measure how much current the FL2 draws when hooked up to SDD, and I will see exactly what the caravan charger puts out.
