Makes trhe £590 i paid for my J reg Classic Vogue SE look a bargain (if you ignore the £300 i have had just to throw at it for the MOT, and the rumbling diff, the non-central locking and the wierd running with lots of toys switched on).

hiya ivor , the classics have dropped in price enormously over the last couple of years my last one which i sold recently was a soft dash lse on an m plate with a proper lpg conversion and i spent a fortune on making it right over the 12mths i owned it for i sold for £2500.00 maybe about 1/3 of what it stood me at ( no wonder the guy was cockahoop with it )
in saying that though the newest classic you can buy is at least 12yrs old now and although there are still many very nice examples there is also a lot of ****e that idiots have ruined by cheapskate repairs and lack of knowledge about the car , the classic was (still is for that matter) a lovely piece of proper british motor enginnering , complete with its basic design faults and rust problems but they will always have a place in my heart ( does that make me a proper sad bugger or what !! ) i run a 4.6 lpg powered p38a now and although its a lovely car it can be a pain in the arse as far as reliability goes at times , and where you could always do something with a classic to get you mobile when a p38 throws its toys out the pram thats it ! your bollocked !!!!.

Adds changed to hand sanitizer, safety goggles, welding wire and sheet steel now. When all said I wish I still had my Classic the last one that is not the three before .

Classics built from '89 on (same steel as the Disco 1) tend to rot more than earlier builds.
Mine will be 34 yrs. old in June & has been protected against corrosion since it was a couple of years old. Missed out on it's annual inspection last year, thanks to this bloody Covid crap ... can't wait for it's next treatment, due as soon as it can be booked in now.
Yes they do rust, as does anything made of steel, the secret is to look after them & although doing so isn't cheap it pays dividends in the long term.
