I have been loading the RAVE manuals for a few years without any issues. But a couple of days ago they stopped loading. The iso mounts OK and opening the folder shows the rave.exe file. Normally double clicking on this brings up an Adobe Acrobat 4.0 splash screen that quickly transitions to the "CarParc"
However, now the splash screen just vanishes and nothing loads.

Running it as Administrator makes no difference, nor does running it in compatibility mode for Win8 or Win7.

I thought this might be an Acrobat compatibility issue, so checked I was using the latest version - I was. I uninstalled it, downloaded another copy and installed that - no change. I uninstalled it again and tried an alternative pdf reader(Foxit) - no change. I uninstalled that and tried unsuccessfully to download a copy of Acrobat 4.0; oldest version I could find was 8.0, so I installed that making sure that it was the default reader for pdfs - no change.

I downloaded alternate RAVE iso files and tried them - no change.

Fortunately, RAVE still runs on a standalone Win7 laptop I use for the VIDA DiCE diagnostic tools I use on the Volvo, but if there are any gurus out there it would be useful to get it back on my normal laptop.

Wild guess, but as it appears not to be a reader issue try deleting the contents of the c:\temp folder and trying again.

The RAVE exe calls on Acrobat four which is incompatible with the latest version of Win 10. There's probably a fix but I haven't bothered digging too deep into it yet.

Rave uses acrobat v4 which comes with it. There's a license built in to the rave .iso to allow it to work. It must use acrobat v4. If yer computer somehow tries to use a different version of acrobat, or it can't see the licensing, you will get the problem you describe. Try running the contents from the rave .iso in a virtual machine instead.

I had the same trouble on w10 and had to set RAVE and reader to compatability for 98/ME

Never played with a virtual machine before. I've downloaded Oracle VM VirtualBox and created a machine with the recommended 50GB of VHD storage. I guess I now need to install an operating system....? Hmm, I'm doing this on a laptop with a 250 GB SSD HD so allocating so much space to something I only use occasionally seems a bit OTT.

For Win10
Set
"AcroRd32.exe"
in
Ravexxxxxxxxxx\Acrobat4\Reader
folder
and
RAVE.exe
in
Rave Folder

to run compatibility mode for Win 95

No idea what you mean by "set" for the two exes. But what works is setting Compatibility to Win 95.
However, if you use the Troubleshoot Compatibility option that is presented as a right click menu choice from the exe file it does not give Win 95 as an option, but only offers Vista, XP (SP2), Win 7 and 8. None of these work and as I assumed these were the only options available, this stumped me.
The trick is to select Preferences from the RAVE.exe right click menu, then the Compatibility tab, and that will give access to the Win 95 option.

Thanks for everyone's help.
