Taking off propshaft replenish rear Diff.

My freelander 1 has done 90000 miles and it has become noisy underneath i am going to ask my local garage to remove the propshaft, bear with me because i am not that mechanically minded,the rear diff seems to be leaking would i still need to have this fixed with a new seal and oil after taking the propshaft off.I am planning on replacing the VCU nearer winter time.

Is this read diff leak a new thing? Has it had new tyres fitted to the front?

Do the one wheel up test to check the vcu.
The noise may be the diff with no oil in!!

A couple of oil seals is not a difficult job and cheaper than taking the car to bits cos you don't know what is making a noise!!!

Removal of vcu makes the vehicle handle differently, more understeer and your insurance company may load your premium as the vehicle is 'not as designed'.

Just top the rear diff up, if there's not an actual drip.

The garage won't know how to test the VCU.
You can do it at home with simple tools.
Search One Wheel Up Test, which shows you how to do it.

They'll not have a clue how to test the VCU.
Google "One wheel up test"
It'll take half an hour to do and that includes finding the stuff to do it.
