Embarressed by my sender unit :-(

Oh I love my double cab, but it showed me up yesterday. The fuel guage is fine until there's only 1/4 tank left. Then it has a mind of its own. It dropped down overnight, but came back up on my way to work and the fuel light went out. But when I left work it died just outside the gate....... Empty.
Is it integral to the pump in the tank?

Yes on a TD5

I recently replaced the sender in my series 3, the last one only showed next to zero all the time. The new one only shows half a tank or less, if I fill it up, the guage goes to zero. It'll have to stay like that, I'm not risking good money on another useless sender.

Is it of the ‘end of a long arm’ float type - if so you can probably bend the arm to get it to read better?

Plastic fuel tank ? if so make sure fuel pump/sender unit earth is good.

It is the long arm float type, I tried bending it to various degrees before inserting it into the tank but it was giving weird readings on the fuel guage. I fitted it hoping it would sort itself out but it didn't. The float on the old sender is more than half full of petrol but for the life of me, I can't see how it got in there.

I have replaced the fuel pump on my TD5 twice. I now have a neat hatch cut out on the floor!
I actually replaced the last pump as the gauge didnt work properly. It has made no difference with the fuel gauge. The gauge shows full when it is full but after halfway it isnt accurate. I checked the float etc and no issues. I also replaced the fuel gauge and checked the wiring, all were good.
I think its a "Landy" thing. I just reset my trip every time I fill up and dont go past 300 miles. To be honest it wasnt worth the stress.

Me too. I know the size of the tank, and I know the milage, so I can get 450 miles on a tank. The gauge is just an indication, as far as I'm concerned.

Funny, that is exactly what I do with both the 110 and the series. The 110 is moderately accurate on the gauge, and the series never reads above 1/2 but when it says empty it is empty. I do not trust either of them and would far rather rely on the mileage driven. I do not like having an empty tank so although the 110 should be good for 450ish fill up after 300, and the series gets 200 miles before the tank is empty.
