First time I did mine I used one of them syringe things.. hard work under car, back out refil, back under, back out...got more on driveway. Second time I did the same with garden pressure pump with end removed but I left the trigger on as it gives a useful on and off facility.

Sorry, should have made that more obvious. You can't pressurise the container without the trigger and also, once pressurised away from the car, which is easier, you can take the container under the car with you if you need to. By tipping it on its side then putting it upright. but I find mine has a long enough tube not to need it.
I go in from the driver's side, tis a wee bit easier. Also at least loosen the filler plug a tiny bit before starting the engine.
Once finished release the pressure, but then store it on its side with the outlet upwards, as there is always residual pressure where the air has dissolved in the ATF, like CO2 in a bottle of pop, and it may well leak out a bit, also there always seems to be some left in the tube.
Guess how I found this out! you seem to need to release the pressure over and over again! I store it in a plastic crate with an old newspaper under the container to catch any leaks.;););)

I've change the filter and filled up with about 5 litres it started to dribble out but my drive is on a slant towards the filler anyhow it worked great so took it for a spin great ran it up down the box ,took it out and it dropped out of gear and had to tow it back got it on the drive , turned off engine ,started it again and it worked?? Reversed it up the drive and it dropped out of gear again does it need more oil help please

Did you follow the correct fill process running it up and down gears at same time as being under car filling? 5 litre does sound about right, when you changed the filter did everything go well? Filter when on nice and sweet, inc the o ring?
Other than low fluid I’m at a loss now unless something is wrong inside, cheapest fix would be check fluid level, now it’s mixed with old, I’d be tempted to drop it out again and do another fluid change that way you have more new than old fluid in the box, this could also move any sludge or blockage that could be in the box as atf has a lot of detergents in it. What colour was the old fluid when all drained out? And what did the magnet look like? Bit of grey sludge/ metallic goo? Or flakes of metal etc?

Followed correct procedure as I say it did work ,the fluid was dark maroon that came out , 2 , 3/4 litres but it took nearly six before it started to dribble out should I have ran through the gears again after it was full before putting drain plug back,, it was weird that it worked after I rested the engine for five mins then started it but after ten foot it dropped out of gear again. Should I try to put more in or change the lot again it's getting expensive very expensive £60 so far ,!!!

It sounds like Maby oil level or something that once rested fluid goes back to sump then sucked up and works but when running is it low so not creating the pressure needed. It can be expensive, just think once done it’s good for a while. Maby try and add more fluid on level ground, don’t forget run engine or soon as you open sump level plug fluid will pour out.

I wouldn’t say run through gears after putting plug back it’s usaly just have someone run through gears same time as filling then once fluid dribbles out plug back in, engine off job done.

Well tried everything by the book it's full of fluid about six litres,,, when I start the disco from cold it works forward reverse ok ,then I'll get a screeching noise after two three minutes and it'll drop out of gear and won't acknowledge any gear selector change after that going to speak to a couple of mechanics tomorrow thanks for your help

That’s not good, may be with contacting Dave Ashcroft from Ashcroft transmissions as they rebuild them boxes and no doubt over the phone he could diagnose it. Just be careful with mechanics as most don’t touch gearboxes so there reply is more likely “needs a new box”.

Does it make any noise at all from startup/at idle?
Cracked or broken flex plate, maybe?

I think it has got to the point where it needs rebuilding in one way or another. Screeching sounds ominous.
There are autobox rebuilders out there, it is knowing who to trust. Maybe peeps in your area know who.

Best of luck!
