LT77 Condition??

Just got a second hand Defender LT77 and LT230. I've split them and am after your opinions on a few things. Firstly, how bad would the wear on the main shaft be considered? In need of a new shaft, standard for a defender? Etc
Secondly and probably a slightly bigger problem the box seems to be stuck. All gears engage ok, but the input shaft in the bellhousing cannot be turned by hand and I am presuming it should. I move a fraction to the left and right and then clunk! Its stops. I know its a bit of a long shot, but also that there are lots on here with masses of experience. Hoping you may be able to offer suggestion of possible issue. I have no history of the box, other than its been sat under a tarp for quite a while. Its a 50A suffix E box.

Right, just been out to garage to try again. Rear mainshaft turns a tiny bit each way about 5-10 degrees and you get the same clunking and loss of movement. When moving the rearshaft the front is moving too. Hope thats a good sign?

not if box is in neutral, its either in 2 gears or a baulk ring could have corroded onto a gear
 
ensure its in neutral and put some mole grips on one of the shafts and try a little force
James you're a diamond. I double checked it and although selecting most gears, it wasn't going in to 1st or 2nd fully. Put a rag around the mainshaft and then some mole grips. Little bit of force and boom. It gave way. Everything turns, all gears select and both shafts move freely in neutral. Looks like it was stuck in two gears.
Out of curiosity, what do you think may have caused this? I'd rather it didn't happen again with box fitted.

It looks to me there is quite a bit of corrosion on the input shaft and in its housing. What's the plan here ?
Drop the oil, inspect drain plug and oil. WD40 and some scotch bite fit it and keep my fingers crossed. Hope its better than the existing and if not hopefully I'll have raised enough funds to get one of the boxes refurbed
 
I would remove the front seal housing and clean up it and the shaft itself, check where the seal runs is shiny. Use some emery cloth. Forget WD40 it is just a [as the in the title] a Water Dispersant. For penetrating/release use RP90. You will need to get the clutch engagement splines well clean or getting it in will be a pitta.
