Hi,
I purchased a disco 3 2007 a few months ago. It’s not been started for a couple of weeks so battery dead, I put jump leads and it started immediately,
However whilst taking it for a little spin around cul de sac the disco stopped like someone put their foot on the brake pedal with a screeching noise underneath. I took my foot off the break and off we went at 10mph for about 20 metres and it happened again. It’s like a scraping noise underneath the disco but stopping it moving. Help!!

Fully charge battery and try again, also worth reading the codes if there are any.
Mine sulked a little when first started after two weeks standing, susp faults etc, but cleared quickly and have stayed off.

Thanks. It was a bit scary taking the car for a spin around the estate. I only went 20 yards and the car came to a holt. Initially it felt that a large plastic bag had caught up underneath and stopped the wheels turning but more severe. I put my foot on the break panicking when heard the noise. I waited a few seconds and took my foot off the break and went slow for another 20 yds and again the car came to a halt. I’ve parked it back on the drive tonight.

Anything D3 onwards you really need a code reader, ohterwise its just an expensive guessing game
Icarsoft 100 quid, damned decent tool
Gap IID tool 400 quid does same as icarsoft, but you can also programme

Thanks. It has to be something simple. I’ll have to buy new battery. See what happens but am afraid to drive it too far. I might replace battery myself doesn’t look difficult.

It strange how something can stop 2.7 tons of D3.
Is it automatic or manual?
Did the engine stay running when it came to a stop?
Did it feel like the brakes were being applied, or something more mechanical underneath?

It’s auto. Yeah if felt like someone had applied the breaks but engine kept on running. The noise was strange as well like something was dragging underneath.

Do you have breakdown cover? Something obviously isn't right, as these things take some stopping, so I thinking it's something serious.

Has the car got sat nav? if so can you pull up the off road/4x4 screen?
