I suspect I am not the first person to ask this question so I am hopeful someone can help.

I have a 2004 freelander 1 TD4 manual facelift model I bought over 2 years ago.
It was around 140k miles then but had been recently restored by an enthusiast and has run well for the last 16k miles only needing servicing and a few wheel and prop shaft bearings replaced.
Recently it has started to develop an intermittent fault of reducing power and putting on the MIL light for a while. Power comes back and MIL light goes out after a few minutes of driving on lower power.
I know this is quite a common symptom of fuel starvation or turbo boost on the 47R engine and I want to diagnose the problem before randomly changing stuff.
Using an ELM327 obd adapter plus scanmaster and/or torque software I can access live data like temperatures, MAF readings and turbo boost but I cannot detect the MIL light is on or the PID code that triggered it. I also tried a cheap "OBD2" engine scanner too.

My question is which obd scanner CAN read out the the freelander 1 ecu properly. I want to access the low pressure fuel lift pump pressure and also the the high pressure in the fuel rail. There are sensors for these on this model and I saw an american youtube video where these were displayed using a professional grade, high end, Autel scanner on an FL1.
The 2 brand leaders in mid-range scanners seem to be Autel and Icarsoft but I have not been successful in getting confirmation from their UK outlets that it will read out the parameters I need.

Does anybody have direct experience of scanners, or software for the ELM327, that does read all sensed parameters from the FL1 TD4 ecu? If so, manufacturer and model please!

The bad news is that the ELM327 is kind of redundant now, in that it AFIK won't do diesel OBD. The good news is that if you've got a laptop, and it doesn't need to be anything fancy, even something from ten years ago will do, or one of those cheap windows 10 tablets, then you can get chinese clones of top end diagnostics tools on eBay. These clones come with a copy of the appropriate software - these can do most things with the ECU, ie the Delphi one off eBay can read and reset engine codes, ABS codes, gearbox codes & communicate with other systems on a freelander and the wurth one is slightly better. This setup will give you almost dealer level diagnostics abilities for under £50.
 
I've a Delphi clone on an old W10 tablet that I use as diagnostic software on all vehicles, including the FL1 and FL2.

It's also got Multiecuscan for the Fiat vehicles in the household, which does a few extra things Fiat's need, that the Delphi doesn't do.

The point is there's no need to spend a fortune on a one vehicle diagnostic tool, when there are plenty of cheap clones of premium software about.

As for the FL1, there is very restricted PID information available on the EDC, so even with top of the line diagnostic equipment, the information you need might not be available. I'm having similar issues with my FL2, which also doesn't output simple stuff like injector offsets, which is really annoying.

The Delphi DS150e clone with bluetooth arrived 10 days ago and I have loaded it onto a pc ok and it works quite well.
The story so far is the engine ECU reports codes 1613 and 1470 regularly on the test journey. Sometimes just 1470 or 1613 and other times both together.
I have monitored low and high pressure fuel pumps, turbo boost and MAF. Low pressure pump is between 3 and 3.5 bar, the high pressure pump varies smoothly between 200 and 800bar. Turbo boost is a bit slow to react but gets to a max of about 2.2 to 2.4 bar on high demand . MAF values are correlated to demand and turbo boost, but look a bit erratic. The MIL light has not been on since I did the first ECU reset even though I still get these codes.

I checked all control modules in the car and they all had codes in them. They looked historical so I reset them and none have returned since and I check for them at the start of every journey. I have not experienced a substantial power loss but have had hesitations for a few seconds, since I did this, not sure why though.

I am working on getting the flight mode feature working so I can record parameter sets while driving and analyse them in detail later.

I am having problems finding accurate definitions of what 1470 (turbo or EGR?) and 1613 (injector balance on idle?) really mean since these are definitely manufacturer reserved codes and there may be a definition unique to the FL1 TD4. Any help here would be very welcome since I suspect I may have 2 unconnected issues.

Time to get the tools out and start looking at wires, connectors, pipes and checking the vaccuum system, etc!
 
I have the same doubt, Where did you buy the Delphi clone (maybe someone can share a link), a the experience using it?

Could you read ECU, ABS, and gearbox with the Delphi?

I’m looking Delphi DS150e clones too.

I note single PCB version is supposedly better than the twin PCB.

I know everyone mentions the DS150e clone but what’s the Autocom CDP version?

Can anyone advise how long these usually take to ship from China?

Also, do you guys trust the software on your laptop or run it in a sandbox?

There is also another option which doesn't rely on knock off dodgy software and which you can receive a lot quicker (shipped from the UK).....
I’ve just had a look at your website. Very impressive.

I have an original Hawkeye BA5070 for my FL1 but wonder if it’s limited, although I appreciate the FL1 is limited anyway on it’s OBDII diagnostics.

I think your website has answered one question though. When I tried accessing EMS 3D with Hawkeye I kept receiving a communication failed error. Looks like my 2006 FL1 will be SAWDOC!

I read somewhere on here that the Delphi clones can do a power ABS brake bleed, much like my Nanocom on the D2.

Can Pscan power bleed the FL1 modulator and brakes?

I’m looking for more functionality than the Hawkeye to make a new diagnostic worth buying.

As it works on the D2 too does it cover all the Nanocom evolution functions, especially on the SLABS ECU?

yes it can with Teves Mk20 and Mk25, but not yet Wabco-D. As yours is a newer model it will have Teves so it will work.

it's very early days with the D2 and I haven't yet done SLABS. It's probably going to take a long time to do it.

Yes, my FL1 is Teves Mk 25

No prob re D2 as I have the Nanocom anyway.

@pscan.eu To be honest, given I already have the Hawkeye, the only things I feel I’m really missing are SAWDOC access and power bleeding the brakes.

Pscan looks a fabulous tool but I can’t really justify it for one old car when I already have Hawkeye for it and fully loaded Nanocom for D2.

I’m not concerned about SAWDOC (famous last words) but would really like the power bleeding to do a full modulator flush/bleed.

I’ve found another seller supplying clones and saying it’s licensed software. Trouble is they remotely install the software and there’s no way I’m giving remote access to anyone. Quite the opposite, I often remotely help friends and family but I’m not giving any business remote access to install software locked to 1 PC.

The search continues…
 
Hi,

I have one pscan, very impressive list of functions for several cars and I'm very happy with it. I also have a Autel AP200 which with the landrover software are quite good and easy to use.
My car is a 2004 FL1 1.8

I heard a lot of users that are happy with the Delphi clones but never tried one, consider getting one to play with and use for the other cars. I will follow this thread.

The iMac got intel processors something like twenty years ago I think. So yes an iMac should work with pscan. An iPad won't work.
