You need to check as between certain months wild camping is not permitted.
search for dogging sites,most will give you ideas where you can park and not be disturbed.
Also the nice car parks have height restrictions.
Do Scots men dog? I'd quite like to hear their gobble chat, maybe something like "are yi sookin ... aye that's gallace hen, dinny give me yer chat keep goin ... no yerr neigh hayin it. It's aw mine. Is it troo its moor tastierrr than walkers crisps" lolololol

If you are stealth camping (AKA wild camping anywhere except the middle of nowhere) you want it to be quick to put up and take down and that means leaving the bed in it and no ropes. The hard top tents can do this but they cost a lot. Some people have made their own. We have a Dormobile roof but even that seems to take an hour from park-up to ready to sleep.

Agreed, I was looking at a roof tent to go on top of the Sankey to create a second "room" but the tents were costing more than the trailer. I bought a 2nd hand Dormobile top and fitted that. its been a huge success and we do a lot of weekend trips as we are in Britstops - allows you to stay free in pub car-parks. Its strictly campers, no tents - due to UK planning regs as overnight parking is allowed but camping requires a change of use. You could do worse than buy a Dormobile top and bolt it on for summer: Its adds about 40% to the volume and best of all you can stand up with room to spare.

Flippin eck. Change of plan. Bed and Breakfasts along the route. The problem I'll encounter is the same as my bro is finding with his Scotland to England 8 marathons in 5 days, i.e. in some places there are vast baron spaces between civilisations. Also. if I experience any harassment from flies or midges of any description, I'll be coming straight home.

out of season glamping pod or bunk houses are good to use.
You also want to get a bit of local knowledge from members like @kevstar hes over the border

Hey Mr @Mackers how wide is your roof rack, I have a 2 woman 1 man tent
Its winds up in about 30 seconds, but its a big lump it may not fit inside your roof rack
I can measure it tomorrow when im in the workshop.You could fit simple roof bars as I
wouldnt be chopping up that rack either.
Here's a pic of my set up... the 270 degree awning has sides & you can fit a 2 man tent underneath
or a few passion rugs.

Perhaps you could just fit an 8 x 4 x 3/4 sheet of ply with a centre support to stop bending, easy to dismount when not in use, can fix tent to it.
Quick question.......... just on the off chance I wanted to tour the very north - perhaps NC500 - would October be less midgy ?

I am hoping to go late April or early May as Sept and October doesn't work for me with pheasants released and the need to keep rounding them up and sending them home..
You hoping to be independent then and tax us Jonny Foreigners for driving round it ? or some draconian border checks and obscure paperwork to prevent entry to get your lovely quiet roads back.
Footage i have seen it looks madness in the summer with Motorhomes so would NOT blame you ...LOL

We went Feb 19, and August 20. August was horrendous for midge. It was also a nightmare with motor homes and converted campers. If a parking spot was big enough to get a motor home on it, then it had one, if not, they parked on the verge. The roads were chaos with them tootling along at 20-25mph not giving any courtesy to anyone else on the roads. I would seriously think twice about going again.
