Hi all I've got a intermittent problem with my disco. Its a 97 300tdi etc auto trans and every now and then when im driving along it seems like it wants to die but only for a split second almost like its hitting boost cut or running out of fuel some days it doesn't do it sometimes might do it 2-4 times and today it did it heaps but then come right. Could it be a crappy lift pump?

I would ignore the edc bit at the minute, and concentrate on the cheap/simple stuff
Lift boot and mat and remove round inspection plate and check for rotten pipes on the pick up
Check fuel line from pick up to lift pump
Check all elec plugs, ie unplug and look at pins etc, relays, ign switch
Battery cable clamps, battery leads and expecially their ends

Intermittent faults are bar stewards to find/fix

As it is EDC it is quite likely to be the throttle potentiometer. As you press the throttle a contact arm inside moves over an electrical track, sending an electircal signal to the EDC about how far to open the fuel supply. As the track wears the contact arm looses contact and for an instant there is no signal, and no fuel. It will only get worse.
Bad news is new replacement parts are not available. Either find a second hand one, or convert to the system on manual gearbox vehicles.
