when i reverse and then drive forward a loud crack comes from the rear of the gaylander can anyone help

i cant see any cracks in the chassis.

its probably the chassis mount cracked.
normally its the offside rear mount / front one that goes.
if you lift back seat and pull carpet up you will see there is a small round metal bung in the floor if you prise this out and look down hole you will see the captivated nut has split its mounting.
not to bad to repair 2 hours max.

It can also be worn diff support bar bushes, usually the nose bush that goes first.

A cracked chassis , if it is one is easy. just make up a rubber washer and put iut between the rear sub and the chassis do it for all four and you don't even have to check which one it is. Mine was the front one drivers side. Before you do this though , make sure the bolts are done up tight , they can back off apparently.

Hi Shaun
This happened to me it was my final drive main cog slipping dont panic if it only happens when you are on full lock in reverse as this is a safety feature on the Freelander K series.
If not it will be your rear shaft bearings going

if its the subframe to chassis mount, you take up a panel in the rear tub and can see the captive (or not) nut down an ole, apparently. Its just a case of welding a new one into place.
