Hi,

Can someone help me diagnose this issue! I am fairly inexperienced with mechanical issues and need a little help please.

I have just noticed that gearbox oil is pouring out from the front end of the gearbox.

It's dark so difficult to see properly however I took this photo which shows a hole which seems to be the source. What has gone wrong here, and how do I resolve it?

The picture is taken with me lying down looking directly up at the gear box where it connect to the engine. The bar in the foreground is the front axle.

Thanks in advance

Stop the car and do not use/run it.
That is not the gearbox, it is in fact the engine, the odd drip of oil whilst not good is not the end of the world, if its truly pouring out you have a serious issue.
The hole is the wading drain hole, which is also a tell tale to see if anything is leaking, insde that casing is your cambelt.

Thats not your gearbox, thats the timing case. the gearbox is about 3ft further back.

Likely front crank seal if oil is coming from that hole

OK thank you very much for the advice.

The oil was virtually clear in terms of appearance and didnt smell of much. It didnt look like black engine oil type liquid.

Hmmmm, let me check again in the morning.

It felt viscous and oil like.

Would Diesel feel viscous? Thought it would be more fluid than what i felt.

Check your dipstick. If the oil in there is black, it wouldn't be coming out of anywhere else clear.
