Hi All,
I have an oil leak from the transfer box rear output. I have fitted new brake shoes, and have come to fit the new oil seal. There was 2 of the same size seals fitted, one behind the other. Should there be 1 or 2?.
If only 1, how far do I have to push in the oil seal?

It did have but I have bought a new one, I thought there should only be 1 seal as it only shows 1 in the parts book.
The main thing I am not sure of is how far to push in the oil seal.

There is a special tool that sets the seal about 3/16" inboard of the flange lip. When I did mine I made one in my lathe. But seal can be fitted slightly deeper or shallower to miss groove in flange. But if you have a new flange that won't be required. Important thing is to get seal in square. There should be one seal only.

The other thing to br aware of is the flange has to be polished. Any roughness will bugger the new seal. If it is too worn it won't seal either. If it feels any roughness to the finger-tips then see if you can borrow a lathe and with some oil and some fine grit wet and dry just polish it until smooth. Otherwise it is new flange time.
