Having changed the engine for a 2.25 Petrol engine I am struggling to find the engine number. The position at which I believe it should appear shows no trace of a number. Just wondering if anyone could advice where else to look.
Many thanks

It looks as if they may be number on the flat of the block just behind that Brown cable clean it up and see

Sorry for a slow response, have cleaned that casting up and no sign of any number...... any other advice on where to look? It is believed that the block came out of a S1 as a reckon/ replacement engine but can't imagine this should make any difference?
Cheers

The 2.25 was first fitted to the series 2. Early engine numbers start with 151. The engine number is as above by wireman next to the first manifold bolt and goes vertical.

Very odd there appears to be no sign of any numbers on that specific piece of casting...... I have attached a picture of the engine.

Umm, any chance it's a 17H? What colour is the block? Look on the flange above the cam access plate, beside the dizzy.

Looking at your first pic again there is an extra bracket cast into the timing cover with two bolt heads to be seen in it. Not normaly there so may be something military?

I think Wildefalcon is right - it does look like the front cover on the 11H or 17H engine. In which case the engine number should be where he says: above the plate where the fuel pump is mounted, to the left of the dizzy.
Good news if you have one of these, especially the 17H!

Do the standard petrol heads need to be modified for unleaded fuel? It's not something I have ever thought about much as I run a diesel.
In the long term, the head should be modified. Turner engineering do a converted head replacement, you send them your head and about £400 and they send you the modified one. Alternatively, you can put a lead replacement additive in the petrol, that's what I do. There are some that will say you don't need to but the valve seats will burn if you don't and that wil lead to bad running and backfiring.
