You can do it. I did the same on my son's 38' waiting for it to warm up. You can feel it pull at temp and then let it go.

Somewhere between the engine and the cats, manifold is most likely and hardest to get to

Yes, the v8 is a lot tighter. I think you can poke stuff up and down the sides though.

Hence removing the fan from the equation, will be quieter and less air movement generally

Great thing about the v8 is that the top of the shroud pops off and it only takes a minute to pop the fan off.

Will i took the fan off, them exhaust manifolds get real hot real quick! Suffice to say there's next to no leak there, I'm baffled! Unlike my exhaust!!

There probably is a leak at the manifold or down pipe joint then. I had the same problem, Iknew there was a leak cos of the noise and smell in the car but I couldn't find it, eventually it turned out to be a crack in the manifold in a place impossible to see or feel.

It was right underneath almost between the manifold and the head. The crack was about an inch long, how it happened, I don't know.
