My 1988 90 300tdi now needs a new bulkhead to sit on its galvanised chassis so I'm thinking a galvanised one would be the way forward. My local independant LR specialist has warned me about a couple of manufactures that he's had issues with of late so who comes recommended? Thanks in advance.

I got mine from a guy in Stanley, County Durham, who refurbs used ones and gets them galved. I have heard that Shielder should be avoided, I have experienced their services with a chassis order, but not bulkhead. Other than that, I do t really know of anyone else to avoid. How bad is the one you removed from yours? Is it worth fixing?

I'm repairing mine now and the n/s was in pretty poor condition. Not sure how much refurbed ones are but once you buy all the bits (door posts, vent panels, foot wells etc), get it shot blasted and galvanized, then factor your time in probably not far off buying one already done!

I got mine from Ashtree Restoration. Lovely people, but very disorganised so I couldn't recommend them. I waited weeks after their delivery date for it to turn up. When it arrived they delivered a 200Tdi instead of the 300Tdi I had ordered! Bloody PITA
It's about 5 yrs since I did mine and it cost £900. It was a big outlay, but the cost of them now I would repair my original and get it galved myself and save a lot of money.

Out of interest did you paint yours or leave galvanized?
Iv painted mine.
+1 on ash tree delays(was 4 years ago)
Speced a bulkhead with modifications & was not done. They send photos before they galv & was not correct. Changed it but this put it back. Chased them for weeks for a date. In the end I turned up on there doorstep (while out on a job)
You never know they may have got better.
There work is fine on mine

I located an excellent condition 300tdi bulkhead which had never been repaired and only had minor surface rust in 2 areas. Cost about £800. I then got it shot blasted and galvanized myself.
It's worth contacting any land rover specialists garages in your area and let them know what you're looking for.
+1 on painting it.

Looks like ashtree are no longer trading...
Yeah, I thought that when I looked their website up again, no current price list. Not surprised given their haphazard business model. Lovely people, but that only goes so far when you continuously pish people off with very late delivery and wrong parts. Very disorganised and

So you have a chassis with no numbers and an engine that doesn't match the year of registration.. nice

You can have a chassis with no numbers as it’s new & a replacement(search web rules are all there)
As for the engine you can replace it.

All that happens is the classic tax free status changes.

Or you brought someone's stolen parts.... Which is the mostly likely
My chassis has no number on it. It’s a galvanised one I bought new for my rebuild. When my engine carped the scores in the bore were just enough to be able a rebore to be done. I suppose I could have got it sleeved. If it had cracked I would now have a different block, with a different number. I know what you’re saying, but on vehicles of the age many of us have on here it’s not unusual for us to have changed these items with legitimate parts. Non of us want to support Land Rover theft by buying stolen parts.
