Hi Rich, sorry to be a pest, S3 tyres/wheels choice is a nightmare, so many questions if you don’t mind...
1.Is that the 5.5” rim?
2.Do these tyres foul on full lock?
3.Do they protrude out from the wheel arch? 4.Wonder why your steering feels lighter when others suggest very heavy on 235s?
5.Which GG tyre?

Yes on the 5.5 rim and they don't foul on either lock (or protrude).

Here you go....never had any problems with the wheels or tyres. Steering seems better after i swapped the original tubed rim fitted with 205s on

7.5 16 versus 235/85. I purchased wolf wheels for my series 3 and like the look - not on roller skates or too skinny

Ditto - I changed to Wolfs and 235s. Get the longer studs - you can get 50mm ones for about a £1 each and press them out in situe with a large size ball joint splitter.

So that’s 235/85s on 5” rims?

NO. You have to go on the tyre manufacturers web site and read the rim specs. No 235/85 has ever been OK for a 5" rim. Some years back Cooper tires listed 5.5" as "optional" but recommended 6". I checked all the sites I could find data on prior to getting rid od of my 5.5" (LWB) rims and not a single one (inc Cooper) now list 5.5" as OK. They all list 6" minimum and 6.5 recommended. There are quite a few people running 235s on 5.5" rims but it looks like the manufacturers no longer support this. As I "self MOT" I ditched the 5.5" and bought 6.5" and I must say the 235s sit much better and drive better on the wider rim. All you can fit on a 5" is 6.00R16 or 205. I run 5" rims on my trailer and they are very narrow, almost no decent tyre choice.

7.5 * 16 vs 235/85 side on - wide but not too wide ( thinks me). I’ve got the longer studs as well to install - I’ve read numerous opinions it’s ok without, but it just looks like the nuts are not done up.

QuestionS, do 235/85/16s on Wolf rims extend outside the S3 wheel arch or are they just legal? Does this combination exert any additional stress on the hubs? I noticed talk of +ve offset and additional stresses.

I would doubt it, I run 750's on wolf rims in my series 3 which should in theory be about the same size and they are fine. (Please excuse the leaking fwh)

I run 235 stt pro's on wolfs on my 2a

They sit inside the arches fine - I didn’t want any issues. I’m not a mechanic, but I’m guessing wider tyres means more mechanical stress Somewhere.

I run 235s on Wolfs and they sit inside the body work. I have no fears about extra loads, the tyre contact CL is only around 1/2" further out and I've not noticed any difference. Once you go to 235/85s you get a much bigger choice of tyres so you can pick something thats road biased, all-terrain, mud-terrain or rock etc. I run all-terrain but the point is you fit what is best for your needs.

whete did you find longer studs for a quid each?!?!?

These are the ones I fitted, they are 45mm stud (overall about 51mm) whereas the std are 40mm stud. With Wolfs these come though the nut by about 1mm.

If you have to drill out BSF studs here's a link to a thread I posted. The pic of the Wolf with the new stud shows the nut flush but its an aftermarket wheel. When I got OEM wheels the nuts went on 1 mm more.

With a big ball joint splitter you can change a wheel set in 30 mins.
