Hi all....

Today I swapped out my injectors for my 2006 TD4 Freelander 1. The old injectors did poorly on the leak back test so in went a set from a known good running TD4.
So, wont start! - Cranking, unburnt diesel coming out the exhaust while cranking. Double, treble checked all senor connections. Recent work - HP regulator O rings, Overlay harness and replacement fuel rail sensor. Low pressure pump is priming then cutting off after about a minute, no leaks at unions etc.
Obviously diesel is being injected with whats appearing at the tail pipe but wont start. All 4 injectors appear seated correctly and bores, washer seats were made spotless. Any pointers would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

Scott

Did you get the old copper washers out and fit new ones? Does it run if you refit the original injectors?

Yes, I fitted a new set of copper washers. I might put the old injectors back in and see if it will start. I did an ignition on leak test with the replacement ones and no leaks from the top.

I'm going to test cam and crank sensors today for the sake of elimination.
Can anyone tell me if the rev counter is supposed to move whilst cranking? - This would be an indication of a working crankshaft sensor?
Thanks.

If you have fuel coming out the exhaust, then it's highly likely you have a badly leaking injector.

A leak back test on common rail injectors isn’t a proof test of a failing injector, more a "suggestion" that there might be an issue.

I wouldn't replace an injector bast on leak back alone, as there are many more factors involved.

Did you not read the replies on your last thread? Or just decide to ignore them? Of the latter, then that's on you I'm afraid.

I think a lot of cars suppress the rev counter during cranking, but I'll try to rememberise to check mine when I leave work later.

The Freelander rev counter does show a reading while cranking, but as cranking speed is only 300 or so RPM, it normally doesn't really register on the guage.

No, I didn't 'ignore' the replies on the last post, I just installed a set of 'known good' injectors to aid elimination. Spare the attempt at forum talking down to. I don't know who you are and I don't particularly care who who you are. A new post was instantiated as it was a separate problem.

In fairness, you didn't reply to it, which would have been a polite response. I spent my time explaining why you shouldn't replace the injectors, simply because of a very minor imbalance in spill volume. I did this to help you, so you didn't waste your time and potentially money by replacing good injectors, because a common rail spill test isn't a valid one.

You chose not to follow the advice, and your car doesn't work as a result.

No forum take down intended, but it would have been polite to acknowledge the good advice that was freely given, otherwise it appears as being ignored.

I don't know who you are and I don't particularly care who who you are.

If it makes you feel better, I'll not offer you any advice in the future.

A new post isn't an issue, as you now have a new issue.
