Hello
I have just sold a 1969 2A Land rover lightweight and the new owner has come back to me accusing me of selling him a "dud" because he can't find the military vehicle number (2 digits, 2 letters, 2 digits) on any databases, including Merlin. He is saying the vehicle is illegal although it has a current system V5 and 14 years of MOTs on the DVLA MOT checker site. Can anyone advise me please. Are all the military vehicle numbers listed somewhere?
Thanks for any info.

It’s military identity is irrelevant to its legality, Chassis number is the important bit. I suppose contact Landrover for info on the chassis.

A FOI request to the military with its military reg and chassis number may help unless a previous owner has dressed up a civvy landy as a military one. There is a chance that landy has done something which was classified meaning it’s service record hasn’t been released.

That is the MOD disposal doc of my 101...as it shows all documentation was destroyed by burning at time of sale so unless you have that doc like mine there will be no military record if the same happened to the one in question...

The military registration is 72 FG 16.

I dont actually understand why the buyer thinks it's a dud they were only made for the military...and as I said and showed the docs of mine were desroyed at point of release by burning by the disposal dept so I would hazard a guess same happened to yours if there is no record of that military reg number...

FG is the right year. I’ve had a look for my Lightweight book in case it gave the reg series against contract numbers but can’t find the book at the moment. The new owner could still go back to Landrover and query the chassis number to make sure it’s a genuine lightweight. There are also lightweight specific forums and Facebook groups that may know more.

Might come back no records recorded...see my posts above...
