hi everyone !!
I do alot of towing and find my disco 2 mirrors are not as good / big enough as id like them to be !!
Id like to fit some permanent bigger mirrors on .
Anyone done this or have any knowledge of what mirrors would fit with out looking like a bodge job

Thanks shawn.

I tow shedloads in both the UK and France and have tried all sorts with mirrors as my tow is a huge box trailer.
In France the biggest problem is being sure of judging the speed and distance of anything coming up the fast lane before pulling out to overtake a lorry, on an autoroute.
I tried the sort of overtaking mirrors you are legally supposed to have attached to your door mirrors but they vibrate so much they are useless.

So what i did in the end was glue a flat door mirror glass to the glass of the passenger door mirror, as flat glass gives you a much more accurate judgment on speed and distance. It does however narrow the field of vision so you have to allow for this.
In the UK the driver's door mirror seems to be OK for this.
But ideally I would like to mount old style F-off big Defender mirrors which really show lots!
If you want a pic I could put one up but I don't think it would tell you much more than I've posted.

What I did with my MK1 200tdi was put proper caravan towing mirrors on her that could be removed easily when I wasn’t towing,
Pop the bonnet I removed one of the Philips screws about halfway down between the screen and grill, put in a stud from the bottom with two nuts in the channel, then the wing mirror sits on the lower nut and the top nuts locks it down, pop bonnet down and you are good to go,

If mirrors won't work, maybe you should consider installing rear view cameras on the trailer or on top of the vehicle if there's enough clearance.

That's a good idea, they weren't around, well at a reasonable price, when I first started all this lark.
But you would still need to get used to the screen and the cameras cos if they are at all wide angle a vehicle coming fast up behind can seem to be a long way away when in fact it is right on top of you in no time.

That's true but the more hi-tech cameras can do real time image processing and can show proximity readings of static and moving objects behind you and display warnings when they are too close or when their relative speed is too high and they are closing in rapidly.
