Wipers stop in any position on windshield and at any times.

Help, since this summer, my LR2 2010 with about 180K, does have a gost who play the game of stopping my blades at any positions and any times. So I have to check the forcast before taking my Land Rover. My mechamics told me today that I have the only choice to contact the official Land Rover Garrage and I am not secure because I do not trust them. They are expensives and it is not because you have a nice computer with fantastic software that you understand how to use it. Does somebody have a trick to repair my wipers and save me a trip to Land Rover.

Well at a rough tune guess either a issue with a the wiper motor parking switch has failed or the stork needs replacing. Did the garage check on the computer what flagged up on the code number.

+1^^ could be the stork/switch, fused connection or even the relay.
Take the fuse out and check its clean, swap the relay with another of the same type, quick and easy things to rule out.
Could also be the connector on the motor itself

I don't think the stalk as that will just be sending messages to a computer somewhere on an F2 I expect. It won't have a 'stop wipers now' message - although anything on the network might be sending such a message if one exists or is interpreted as such by the computer.

I don't know if park is performed the same as a 'traditional' setup on a newer wiper system, I wouldn't mind betting that's controlled by its computer as well - but presumably does involve a switch somewhere.

Is this fault when you actually turn off the wipers, or is it happening at random times as you are running the wipers?

It's one of the common faults in Freelanders. IIRC it's the wiper motor at fault but @Nodge68 is the expert to ask.

Not so expert on the FL2 Ali.

I suspect this is a motor problem, but the electronics are so complicated on the FL2, it could be anywhere.

If I get a chance later on, I'll look at the wiring diagram.

Ahh, I thought it was an FL1.
In that case I'd look to the simplest answer first.
Sorry I don't know what that is.

It needs the FL2 replacing with the P38a perhaps?
Just Kidding. It seems the "better and smarter" the cars get, the harder they are to keep going.

As said, I'm no expert but my money is on the motor or a relay. As its in random places, I wouldn't have thought the linkage is an issue.

If there is a main power relay, you could check its output once the wipers have stopped to confirm - or is probably the cheapest bit to replace on the chance that it is the fault.

If you take it to a LR garage and they say it is the BCM - be careful. There are horror stories of LR garages blaming the BCM as the default faulty component for electrical issues (primarily because they do not have sufficient knowledge to fully understand the diagnostics the car provides) - and many $ later the vehicles are in exactly the same broken condition.

@Carougeois you say it stops in different positions, that implies they do start working again after they have failed. Do they start working as randomly as they stop or do they always come back on after restarting or do you have to wiggle them by hand etc?

Unfortunately, my mechanic do not remember the codes. As far as the motor, my mechanic replaced it by a sealbeam to check if current is comming, the light show the same pattern than the motor, turn off so he problem should not be the motor but electrical alimentation to the motor comming from the CEM (central electronic module) . I went to the dealer of Quebec city, It is the same for Jaguar and Land Rover. They are new in town, let say maybe 5 years old. If I am talking about my Jaguar MK2 1967, they do not know the model. They think it is a Toyota type of car. But I have a rendez-vous at the end of the month. They just charge 150$/h instead of the 85$ of my garage. Hope they will do more than wash the truck for 300$ like last visit in January. Do you have any issue with the Central Electronic Module?

If the problem is that when you switch the wipers off they stop where and when they want then I would look at the relay/motor.
If they are just stopping on their own then I would get in touch with an auto-electrician.
Could be better than a place you clearly don`t trust.
