Hi all my locks are very temperamental on my 89 defender 90
I bought new lock barrels but are too short and don’t seem the correct thickness. Does anyone have a link to the correct part needed ? Thanks all
Looking forward to getting her upgraded

It is probably a Ninety, not a Defender 90. The doors changed slightly over time.
I don't know a parts number, but you can get a parts book.
Or just ring Paddock Motors, or John Craddock, and explain the situation, they will know what you need.

Sorry to sound new but what do you mean by 90 and ninety.
After producing the Land Rover Series I, II and III Land Rover's next model, in about 1984 was the Land Rover Ninety (in words not number) In 1989 the Land Rover Discovery was introduced and at the Same time Land Rover renamed the Ninety the Land Rover Defender (90, 110, 130)

Like Al says^^^^^^^^^^^^. Land Rover One Ten and Ninety models were made from about 1983 to about 1989. After that, Defenders were made, badged as Defender 90 and Defender One Tens. They had Tdi engines as standard. And with some changes and different engines, Defender 90 and 110 were made up to 2016.

So, when ordering parts, saying "Land Rover Defender" is unlikely to get the right result, you need to specify year, body type, engine, etc.
To complicate matters further, many parts are interchangeable. So, for example, your 1989 Ninety, might have been retro fitted with Defender 90 doors made in 2003, or many other years.
Try looking at the lock barrels for numbers, or, as I said, speak to a parts man in person. People who have been selling the parts for years can usually work out what you need.

My Land Rover is one of the last Ninety TD models made in early 1990. You may feel the need to change your forum name to " jsninetyman" ;)
Go with Turboman's suggestions. Not a hard job [ did mine last year ] but can be a bit fiddle inside the door.

door latch / lock barrel MUC2290 / MUC4146 for a Land Rover Ninety rather than Defender 90.
Do you have lift up or press button door handles?
These are for the former; push button door handles came in with Defenders.

Thanks for the replies guys appreciate it and it’s the lift up handles and I looks like the longer barrels I’ll try upload a photo . It is was longer and has a screw on the back and I can push it through with easy access . It may be the newer type as I’m assuming there are only 2 barrels ?

My 1990 ninety is push button and likely your 89 is as well. Push button came in 1987 . Military types remained lift up.
My 89 Ninety had push button doors. I don't know when they came in, but if you say 87 I am happy to go with that.

To really mess up later owners, when the door frames had turned to dust. I fitted Defender doors, one from a 300TDi Defender, one from a much later Td5.

The bloke who eventually bought it is probably still looking at the parts book now! :D

And some folk have fitted early lift up 90/110 or series 2/3 to later models. Makes things interesting for later owners.
A neighbour once had a series 2 with one piece doors and this puzzled us for some time. Found out Land Rover fitted them to Canadian export models. I guess his did not go as it was RHD. Perhaps they ran out of two piece doors and nicked some one piece from the export line.

Yes. Series doors are much cheaper, even to buy new.
And they are also much less fiddly, no window winders, and no door cards with dozens of fragile plastic clips.
Wish I had got them for my Ninety, really.

After reading your guys comments and other forum links youve shared. Mine is the old type that goes all the way through and has the screw at the end . The muc4146 model . It has no bearings when I took the old part out . Is there a link to the bearings anywhere ?

Just a thought had the same prob on my 90 . When turning the key instead of moving the button up wards most of the turning force was being wasted trying to push the button sideways and not upward so I fixed a bracket screwed to the inner skin which prevents any sideways movement on the button . Now just a positive upwards movement when turning the key,did the same on passenger door.
