Evening guys and gals. Newbie here, though long time reader.

I’ve got a well documented problem with the ‘key not turning in the ignition’ though I feel mine may be a little different. I’ve obviously googled and researched extensively but can’t seem to fathom it out.

I routinely changed out a blown low range speaker from the drivers door this evening, went to turn the radio on and had no power at all in the car. Put the key in the ignition and wouldn’t turn.

Googled the issue and saw it was quite common. But mine is doing a lot of very weird stuff thats making me go round in circles.

1. Central locking is only locking back doors (but intermittently locks both front also)
2. Only power is to the interior lights but they are flashing sporadically and there sounds like relay clicks
3. Dash is going crazy with needles jumping by 1mm, dash lights coming on and off randomly.
4. Not able to open glove box to get to fuses
5. When car does lock, hazards are on
6. Disconnected battery for 10 mins (alarm blasted first time of disconnection as I think I locked the doors manually) and still no joy.

So i read about immobiliser mode if the key isn’t put in within 60 seconds but I’ve had the car unlocked cleaning it for about an hour before without an issue
If its immobiliser surely it would still have power to radio, glove box etc?
Don’t think its key battery as I have 2 keys though both are now becoming non responsive with central locking?

I just can’t explain why the cabin is going haywire?

Could I have pinched something when putting the door card back on? It got dark quite quick so couldn’t continue investigating so thought it best brought to the landy brains.

I’ve left the battery off overnight hoping the fairies fix it for me by the morning.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Jason

do yourself a favour and go to the introduce yourself part of the forum.
As for "Key won't turn" that could be simply mechanical. not unknown and i myself have had to fix that fairly recently. the key itself gets worn and the wafers in the barrel dont want to do what they should.
Easy remedy.
As for the rest, if it is electrickery, others will join soon to put you right.

Evening, Jason. Welcome to the forum.
An 07 plate RR Vogue will be a mysterious animal when it comes to electrical/ECU issues.
Have all of these problems stemmed from you taking the door card off? That does seem strange. I'd be tempted to start with the basics and find out where your main earths are, check them at least. Though, even if they look ok, it might be worth taking them off and making sure they have a good electrical connection. The CAN bus system is described as robust, but I suspect it can get you going around in circles as one error can trigger another 'apparent' error in another controller, throwing up loads of spurious fault codes. Have a look HERE, no idea if this will help, but will give you another line of enquiry.
This is why I have a 96 plate trattor! :)

Thanks for the help and suggestions.

One thing my tired self didn’t do yesterday and probably the simplest was to pop a meter on the battery. It hit me with 16.7v!!

So either car frying battery or battery frying car could be a reason for the dashboard/dials/interior lights being possessed? Safe to say I haven’t reconnected the battery today, or called the exorcist, but instead popped it out and ordered a new one from Tayna. I’m hoping it is a simple as that. If not I’ll at least know the history of the new battery.

I’ll update tomorrow once its all back in. Thanks again.

Occasionally, it’s the simple things. Fingers crossed for you!
