Hi i recently brought a discovery 1 300tdi. To try and give it a bit more power I done the few bits you can do on the fuel pump. Its defontly got more go in the lower gears. Does anyone know if it's ok to use a boost pin and a boost ring after adjusting the pump ? Thanks
 
No I done have one of them. I have turnt the diapram 90 degrees , the fuel screw half a turn and there is another bit in the top of the pump under a cap which I have turnt 180 degrees.

Hi Chris my previous motor was a Disco D1 300TDI and I was interested in the "Boost Pin" so I did a bit of research and the only info I could find was on YouTube by people who seemed to me to have a vested interest in selling it, also they were not the original because the inventor of the boost pin is I think German or Swiss or something like that basically a guy who is one of Bosch's top flight engineers and has patented the boost pin and doesn't franchise it to anybody, so with that mind I discovered there are a lot of cheap copies made of inferior metals and different spec's.
I came to the conclusion that there wasn't enough evidence that the Boost Pin was a credible addition to my car and if I'm honest I think it's a wee bit suspicious so I didn't buy one, but if you feel having done adequate research that you are confident enough to fit one the only caution I would advise is that you buy the original not the cheap fake.

I imagine his tinkering will already blow his engine up soon enough. Why spend more on a boost pin! :D

We are only messing about. It is what we do! :)

Seriously, though, I wouldn't recommend altering fuel injection pumps, unless you are experienced, and have the equipment to do it properly, and to know what results what you are doing has had.
You might get away with it on a 300 Tdi, but at the end of the day, a few extra ft lbs of torque isn't going to make much difference, they are slow, heavy vehicles. Their charm is not about power and speed.
On a later vehicle, with more electronics, you could end up with a huge bill by tinkering.
 
Much safer is to fit a performance exhaust. You will not be able to do any harm with that, and if you don't do it then you will be wasting the power gained by fiddling with the fuelling, and also losing out on fuel consumption.
Just saying.;)
