What have you done to your Freelander today

Not a "What have you done", but not worthy of a separate thread...

Mrs Grumpy does data entry work for a fella who does audits for hotels, bars and restaurants - makes sure nobody is cooking the books and workers aren't walking off with bottles of spirits, choice joints etc.

Anyway, he tripped over the other day and broke his shoulder. He shouldn't really be working, but he's not the type to just sit at home. So his daughter drove him around so he could pick up books etc, but she can't do it all the time, so he's asked Mrs Grumpy to drive him around and go pick stuff up/drop it off.

She took him into town yesterday in our very well used 20 year old L Series Freelander. I did brush the worst of the dog hair and dirt off the seats though. "Oh" he says, "this is a nice comfortable & smooth car to be driven in" :D

Evidently his daughter runs a Jap 4WD and its a bone shaker he recons.

We live down a long bumpy lane and every time I drive the Freelander up and down the lane I remember why I love it so much.

Freelander's rule
Incorrect, this rules! :p

Put a new set of plugs in it today. I've been experiencing some rough running when it's cold. The old ones have done over 100,000 km so pretty good I guess. Gaps were a bit wide and the side electron had burnt away a wee bit on one side.

There's a new petrol station near me which offers "100Plus" petrol. I normally run 95 RON and have from time to time run 98 RON which I feel does offer and improvement in performance; I thinks it holds power on the hills better. I'd be keen to try the 100Plus. What's the advice out there, will I make problems for myself and wreck my motor?

The engine isn't self compensating, so won't know if you use a higher octane or not. If it feels more sprightly with 98, then stick to that, as using 100 wouldn't give an improvement on 98.

Sold my spare set of 17" Freedom alloys, to a chap who buys FL1s in the UK, and sells them in Romania.

He didn't want my SE auto though, as apparently the manual version is worth more over there.:(

Just changed the oil and filter. The seals that come with the filter are diabolical. Once again, I ended up putting the existing seals back in. Britpart. Just the fuel filter left to sort. Next weekend, I think. I got a lot of white smoke out the exhaust when I test drove it. Time to double-check the oil level and see if the smoke has stopped.

Does he want any spares!?! PM me his details if you have them please....

Sorry Andy. I didn’t get his details. He was simply passing my house, when he saw my For Sale sign in my SE. He stopped to have a look, but wasn't interested in it because it was automatic. However he did spot the 17" Freedom rims, which had a couple of General Grabbers which matched a couple he already had. He only wanted the wheels with the Grabbers on, but I wasn't prepared to split up a full set, so he took the lot for £100.

I wonder if your SE will still be there in the morning?
