My Old mans Range Rover Circa 1997..

So I got around to fitting the extended brake lines on the rear yesterday after work.

Quite an easy job overall, although bleeding the brakes is a PITA, well getting to some of the bleed nipples under the bonnet certainly is!!! F'ing stupid design, but enough of that. I also unclipped the ABS sensor leads, I was hoping I would be able to slide the rubber grommets along that clip into the holder, but no amount of brute force and WD40 seemed to want to make them move. So I settled for just cable tying them to the upper bracket and along the new brake line.

I didn't bother changing the fronts, as I haven't replaced the front shocks yet.

We now have lots of rear axle flex!

Rear axle could do with a paint...

The front axle moves a lot less by comparison now. So I really should get round to doing the front shocks.

Of interest, I did find another air suspension limitation in terms of flex. We all know the stock shocks limit flex and then the air bags. Both of which can be replaced for longer examples. However it seems the ride height sensors are also an issue. I'd forgotten to remove one on the drivers side rear. And you can see, under flex it is pulled taught as anything. In fact as I proceeded round the off course, it actually sheared it off!

On the negative side. When I went to remove the rear passenger wheel to fit the brake lines, the rim was superhot and the studs way too hot to handle. It seems that since Sunday last week, the rear calliper has decided to cease!!!!!! So it looks like I'll be replacing the callipers now. Might as well do the discs/pads while I'm at it. And if I've then got to re-bleed the brakes, I might as well make enough to fit the longer front brake lines too. Ho-humm......

Chasing an ABS fault on Sandy, if seems I am down to one of 3 options at this point. Replace the ABS ECU, replace all 4 corner sensors, replace the brake accumulator. The local garage doesn't have a diag that can talk properly with the ol' girl. He seems sure it is the ECU. I think he lies, but with 2 weeks until I am due an MoT test, I might just have to throw parts at it and hope something sticks.

I also have to replace the front right axle seal. I paid a man to replace the hub while I was at work, and though it was perished he chose not to tell me until I went to collect it. A 3 quid part that could've been done while he was in there. Now wants 6 hours labour. So that is my job on Monday when the seal arrives.

Probably got a blowing exhaust somewhere too, I am assuming somewhere up front since I replaced mid and back boxes last year. Bet that's a **** to fix. Again, a job for Monday since I'll have the front up.

Basically, my bus is a mess. I saw a 2000 P38 diesel, identical to mine on facespace for 500 wangers the other day with a GB overheat fault. Really wish I acted faster and bought it. Would've been a good parts car... or replacement. Ah well.

Put the rear outer wing back on after w plugging the rust hole in the wheel arch. And started the camper build out in earnest, concept is defined and most work should be finished tomorrow. Still didn't find time to replace the rear shocks, so.

Have you checked the brake peddle switch is set right as that can throw up an abs fault.

I have not, is it an easy thing to do?

Push down brake peddle and hold pull out switch plunger then let the peddle come back up and it will set the correct distance, i had abs fault switch cured it, the switch is a two stage switch with two settings so it knows when the brakes are on and off, worth a try may well save you a lot of brain ache.

I'll have to give that a try, once I work out where the switch is. I had a look but found nothing but trim panels, so I'll have to have a proper look in a bit. But on the trail I did find a reenactment of what happened to RolledRover's bus.

Yep that explains his motor:D:p

Yes forgot there is a trim panel to remove first, mine has been remover for years:rolleyes:

That'll be it. Gives me an excuse to play I suppose... I hate working on my own car.

Well it is only a reenactment. Obviously there are limits on what you can do ;D

Gave Buttercup a good wash and brush up, then found the rear wiper can't be bothered.:(:(:(:( Got the CT (mot) in a couple of months time so can fiddle at my leisure. Apart from a tyre change sometime in the near future we are pretty well up together, well lets just say the list is only one page long, so that's a result.
