My experience is with the ZF boxes fitted to the RRC but a look at LRcat suggests the later ZF on the L322 has much the same TC setup so my 2p's worth.
The ZF torque converters usually have what looks like a tube projecting from the rear centre of the TC into the gearbox itself.
The tube usually has two slots cut on the end that goes furthest into the box.
These slots engage with & drive the fluid pump in the box.
The TC MUST be seated on the box to a set depth to be sure these slots have engaged.
If they aren't it will still all bolt up but will damage the pump.
No pump = no fluid pressure = no drive.

Can't help with yours being apparently stuck - the RRC one just falls off when you remove the box which comes as something of a surprise the first time you take the box off. TCs are very heavy & an utter PITA to refit unless the box is hung vertically.

With a bit of luck Bemble will be along shortly to put us all right! :)

The 3ltr uses a GM unit.

Ok up date box is out and I can not get the torqueconverter of it comes forward abit then stops but I have found a new oil pump and bellhousing for 150 so I have ordered that what's your thought on putting in a new pump and getting the torqueconverter off thanks

You should be able to pull it off by hand with relative ease, try rocking it left/right as you pull.

the torque has lugs it seats onto it has to be fully installed onto its lugs in the pump. If you didn't hear and feel the lugs locking in, half an inch back of when the torque converter first seated, you've probably knackered the pump.

Always check the exact position of the lugs first, before installing converter. Then very gently slide convertor on align it correctly. When you've got it in correctly, very gently go back in and out 1/8 inch, while rotating a degree or two in each direction, then reinserting. you should feel three clicks as it drops deeper into the bellhousing.

Ok so I got it off and yes the pump is gone so I have just got a new pump and bellhousing and new sump gasket and filter as there is some parcels of the pump in ther so a full drain and clean wean thay get to me now the torque converter has some scratches on the bit that goes in to the box will this still be ok or do I need to change it thanks for the help

Chunks of ****e in the sump isn't a good thing, does it have the sonnax valvebody upgrade?

When you say "scratches" do you mean damage on the internal splines of the TC?

No the scratching is on the out side of the bit that goes on to the pump wear it killed the pump and I dont no if it has the upgrade

Generally the 5L40 lunches converters due to poor line pressure from Iffy solenoids in the valvebody, it is a domino effect in a sense, sonnax kit rectifies this issue

As a rule of thumb if the whole box is past 90k it is on borrowed time, it all depends on how much money you want to spend a recon converter is £395, however considering there is metal debris in the sump then there will also be ****e in the converter too..

If you put it together just be prepared for the box to go 10mi then shít itself..

I have 2 torque converters and the box in ther was put in 18month a go and has been great what can I do to clear it out just to get on the safe side thanks for you help

And I dont have a lot of cash left this has destroyed my bank I am just doing it as it's the car my disabled daughter can go in as of the size of the car

A Range Rover will empty a healthy bank balance very quickly when in fault....If you need a vehicle to assist with disabled family members, a Range Rover is a poor choice.....I love'rm more than most and even I have a second car for when mine ****sss the bed.

There are equally large vehicles which are oddles more reliable than the Range Rover which may be better suited if it is something you need to rely on!

Have had lots want with a range as it had the conversion done for a wheelchair and had lots of work done on it never let me down till now and has cost me buy I dont like to be beaten thanks for the advice but I am in dep now
