Hello,

my td5 wont start when is warm.
I change crankshaft sensor... no change... starts ok when engine is cold
When is warm it start only with spray ignition

please help

Does the temperature sensor not feedback to the ecu on these engines?
I wonder if you disconnected it whether it would then start?
Not had the problem with my td5 but temp sensor is an issue on most other diesels. Not too sure whether this is glow plug control or simply timing on a td5, would be interesting to find out though.

I tried to start the car with all the sensors disconnected, except the cranck sensor... with cold engine, its start... when it get warm, no start !
I got an ECU from a friend of mine, no improvement, start on cold, not on warm...
change injectors connections to the ecu also and fuel tank fuel pump

You don't have the egr in circuit do you?

I was thinking more of mimicking the cold star with the temp sensor. Maybe simply disconnecting it doesn't do that.

Hi Bantam.

I know this post is very old but what was the solution? I have exactly the same issue and have also recently had new fuel pump (which wasnt faulty), replaced injector seals and washers so unlikely to be this issue again.

The car runs perfectly well and starts from cold. It starts when hot if within say 10 minutes but give it 15 mins it will either start and die v. quickly or it will just crank but not start. It will eventually start if i prime and prime and prime the fuel pump at which point it starts to cough sputter and will eventually catch. Once running its all good.

If this was an injector seal / washer issue i should have increased oil levels and surely i would have issues with a cold start? I certainly did in the past.
Could this be an injector problem, staying open and letting air in the system?
Is a crank sensor issue possible?

Fully serviced it a few weeks ago and all normal checks were done for common occurrences.

Help would be appreciated. Do i start with crank sensor as its a cheap part?

Swap the coolant sensor with the FT(fuel temp) sensor(in the FPR) to see if it improves things or not, or even better replace the FT sensor with a new one cos it's not expensive... unless you can read live data to see if the FT input is OK... a compression test would be good as well

I've got a Hawkeye so can test the FT.
Take it a compression test will tell me if i have leaking copper seals or an injector letting by?
I did have a look at the Injector live data this morning and all were running at between -1 and +1 which i assume suggests that the injectors are fueling equally. Does this rule out an injector letting by?
