I have changed the switch on the gear box for a new one but it seems something is not right as I have to push the gear lever back and hold it while reversing to ensure the reversing lights stay on.
Am planning on fitting an after market reversing sensor kit but need to know the reversing lights operate correctly otherwise I can't rely on what the sensors are doing.

no , remove consol then drill out pop rivets of tunnel cover you can then get at gear box top ,put box ion 4th gear remove the 4 bolts holding the top and lever top off ,you need a good quality 5mm allen socket to remove the grub screw to release the yoke

I am going to have to tackle this job sooner rather than later as my reversing sensors and light only work now when the engine has warmed up.
Can you give me a bit more info on what I'll see when tackling this job please jamesmartin?

when you pull gear box top off the selector yoke will be obvious, the 5mm grub screw can be tight and its worth levering selector forward a little to allow yoke to slide off,you can see the groove switch makes on the underneath

Sorry to pull up an old thread but you sound knowledgeable on this gearbox. I have replaced my gearbox with a refurbished r380, and have issues with reverse light flashing on when changing to 5th. I've packed out the switch with washers but it still flsshed on. It stays on OK in reverse. If I pack out a bit more it won't come on for reverse.

Any ideas please?

Mike

But did you try with a new switch before grinding things ?, if not that should be your first move cos those switches can become ultra sensitive in time as they have an internal spring which can be ''tired''
