How easy is it to replace the Alpine window seals on a Defender TD5.

Could l do the job myself without any special tools, or will it be an unmitigated disaster?

You can get special tools, but I did mine without. It is fiddly and cramped in the corner of the roof. The worst I found was aching arms, holding them up for so long.

When I did mine I put them back how i found them with the bead outside, guessing it should be inside. I didn't have any special tools other than one of the orange plastic trim removers.

I have bought a tool now as I have my boat rubbers to do when the new windows arrive

My beads were outside too which is correct. I've got the special tool to put the beading in, it's homemade and was given to me by a mates dad, works well too with lube.
You can do it with flat bladed screwdrivers but it's a faff.

My homemade (not by me) one.

poke the beading up the pipe tube handle and through the steel rod diamond bit. As you pull the tool along the seal groove the diamond bit at the bottom spreads the groove and the beading is fed into it.
