More painting questions...rear badge and grille

While I'm tidying up the bodywork on the rear, it's also got be thinking about how to tidy a couple of other bits that are were looking a bit scruffy.
The 'Land Rover' on the rear panel is currently just silver, ie, the black paint has come off over the years.

Does anyone have any tricks to restore this? Paint it all black and then wipe it away from the raised lettering before it dries? Are there any tricks to doing this and getting a clean edge? Or easier to paint it all black and then paint the lettering silver afterwards?
And the front (plastic) grille...should this be all silver, with just back around the lettering? The paint has really flaked off so it's a grubby-looking blackish all at the moment. Same issue with the lettering - how best to get silver lettering on the back background? Any particular paint work best on the plastic?

Rub it down a bit to remove any loose paint/key the surface. Spray black, then before it dries wipe the letters with a rag wrapped round your finger, dip the rag in some turps or similar. Have a go you can't bugger it up, if you do go wrong just start again. You'll never be able to paint the letters silver unless you are an amazing artist/steady hand.
As for the front grill, you'll have to get your steady hand out and paint round the letters (black) the tricky bit is painting 'inside' the A, D and O.

All that said 'patina' is all the rage now.

Excellent. Thank you very much for the advice. I did consider painting it, letting it try, and then getting the Dremel out to grind back to the metal again, but I don't really want to damage the surface. If wiping the paint off the letters works, then I'll do that.
Patina....hmmm...I think I'll stick to black and grey. If it was naturally patina two-tone, still, I'll leave it as it is, but if I'm doing something to it, it'll be black,

Id do as wireman says except I'd use a tub of cotton buds instead of a finger, unless you have slender, elf like fingers.

Thems badges are worth a lot now, look after it.

Paint it all black and let it dry then lightly sand the surface that's what I did with mine

I tried the 'wet' method, thinking that it was less likely to damage anything and I could revert to the 'dry' method if it didn't work.

I didn't get on very well with the cotton buds, as maybe I put too much paint on, but the bug was absorbing too much paint to be able to do very much. The fluff was also making it difficult to be precise.

A bit of rag pulled tight over the tip of my finger, dipped in white spirit and then skimmed over the letters very lightly, seems to have done the trick pretty well. I'm pleased with the results. Looks like I might have touched the background a little a few times at the top of the badge, but it's just a little 'character'!

Another trick is to paint the lettering , allowing it to dry , then use something like silicone grease via a fine hobbyists paint brush on the lettering ,wiping off any excess, spray the black and again allow to dry , Then wipe off the grease
