Until a lot more power generation is moved away from burning coal and oil, and towards more environmentally minded methods, then an electric car recharge only has tenuous green credentials. Meh. Perception of electric cars being zero emission green vehicles is currently ahead of the true state of affairs. The emissions are just shifted to a power station, out of sight, out of mind. Things are getting better, though.

20 years ago you would have been right. Today less than 5% of electricity comes from coal and on windy days more like 0%.

Actually you need to look carefully at the scale of each graph to get the true picture. At a glance it looks like we get more from Gas but the scale for renewables is 0-60 where it's 0-30 for gas.

In truth electric cars are far from green as they require massive resources to manufacture however they are still much greener than ICE cars.
Even if the electricity was coming from a coal powered station the laws of scale would make them greener.
In my mind the greenest car of all is an old one that was about to be scrapped and has been converted with used components from crashed cars.

But you are right, in my view. That is a bit, only a bit, greener than refurbing vehicles when near life expiry to give them another 20 years without the production energy and scrapage energy.

There's nowt wrong with Freelanders. Dun't matter how they're powered.

I'd already thought of it, and it's a possibility, if there's no other solution to heating, but I think the motor cooling should be able to supply enough heat.

Oil isn't used to supply the energy to the national grid. Coal no only accounts for 6% of electricity generated in the UK. Natural gas is the primary non-green fuel, but green energy is making a huge impact, which includes nuclear power.

There's more than enough power available to charge EVs now, with more green solutions being installed daily.

Hello I’m new here. I have introduced myself on the main index. I have a facelift 3 door. Fitted driving lights today. The instructions were badly printed line drawings that were like a Chinese puzzle. Spent forever looking for the connections behind the fuse box then realised they’re behind the speedo. Once found, it was a piece of cake. However I did start at 9 this morning and only finished at 6 tonight. I wouldn’t earn any bonus in a garage. They work though and look very cool in my opinion. Dave

Got in her TD4 and gave it a blast, very different feel from my D3 hers is auto leather/ alcantara affair and mine is cloth manual ha. Love an auto! Her fuel i have noticed is well lasting and she is getting good mpg figures shame i cannot see what they are compared to my 32mpg nearly 3 tonne motor. May swap!

Epsom Green 2002 TD4 - 175,000 miles owned from 78,000, subject of underside refurbishment thread and replacement engine thread.
Tangiers Orange 2003 1.8 Kalahari G4 promotion vehicle - 125,000 miles. No dramas yet - PO fitted 2 replacement head gaskets !
Epsom Green 2000 V6 SE - 53,000 miles from new, full service history, subject of recent rebuild thread due to rust underneath and a coastal location.

Started working with a local firm to blast and refurbish underside and some black body components to 'as new' condition. See 'For Sale' section.

Problem with sticking handbrake, searched out some good advice elsewhere on this forum. Inside the rear brake drum is a mechanism that has a small arm that goes through the brake shoe. This is supposed to pivot but was completely seized, sorted now

The rear brakes should be stripped, cleaned, lubricated, reassembled and adjusted every year, but never are, so bits seize.
Keep on top of it now, and no more problems.
