Plenty of oil stains on driveway already. Torque converter ****ed fluid everywhere when it was stuck to the back of the crank. Caused the engine to tilt back as I lifted it, so loads poured out. I keep a bucket of sawdust handy anyways, so it wasn't that hard to clean up.

aaargh. Finally got a fine day to start putting engine back in, and found a small oil leak from the core plug at the rear of the camshaft.
New plug ordered, but any suggestions on best sealant ? Cannot find it in RAVE.

Buy a cheap box of biological washing powder and scatter over the stains after its rained,leave it for as long as possible,then jet wash.

577 will be fine, it is the recommended sealant for things like inlet and plenum etc. it will seal and “stick” the Welch plug in position no worries.

New update. Finally got some time for my project car. Found brittle wiring on both the coolant temp sensors at the front of the engine, so replaced the connectors & wiring. Re-attached plug leads, sensors, etc. Then connected battery & bridged the starter relay to circulate the oil. All sounds good so far.
The engine fired a few times but would not run, so stopped & rechecked everything. Found the fuel pressure a bit intermittent. Then it occurred to me that the petrol is about 4 years old !! So decided to drain the tank. This was quite easy by connecting a hose to the fuel feed in the engine bay, and bridging the pump relay.
During draining the fuel seemed to be coming in bursts rather than steady flow. I guess the pump is starting to fail, so gotta drop the tank & replace the pump as well.
Here's what the old fuel looks like compared to new petrol. Old stuff on the left !! Any ideas how to legally dispose of it ?

Liking your new activity but would have thought you could filter the Petrol as you may need it if we get another lock down or sell it to someone who has a younger car that will burn it.

That would be my vote. Or nix with old oil/ diesel on Bonfire Night. Houses of Parliament is traditional.

My lawnmower is electric !! Wondering if I should bung a gallon into my daily driver each week when it's half full of new fuel.
