I suppose the waterpump could have siezed up or something as its been without water in for a few weeks while i changed the bulkhead.

Are there any other symptoms i could check for iffy waterpump?

if its not boiling/spewing coolant with the cap off, then its not overheating and the water pump is likely fine

No, its definitly not doing that. I'll get a new sensor, and another thermostat again. :(

thanks for the tips all. Any other ideas greatly apreciated.

Just looking on paddocks and they have different ones. green, blue, yellow, red. Does anyone know which one i need? My engine is 300TDI but could be from a disco 1.

Thermostat should be opening at 88 degrees, not 100.

There are many poor thermostats around, even genuine are hit and miss these days sadly. Waxstat are the preferred manufacturer, but you still need to test it before fitting. I’ve had most success buying them from Land Rover.
