L322 4.2 2006 ... How to connect a remote starter button

Hi all, I'm lead to believe the V8's have a starter relay that you can jump using a remote starter button to help with tasks such as using a compression tester. I have the diagram for it's location behind the battery ...

But it's not there! ...

The yellow box is the wipers as per the diagram but the fixing bracket for the starter motor relay is empty! Is it elsewhere or maybe I don't have one! (I should add the engine cranks when asked. ).

If there is a Sherlock Holmes out there I would love to hear from them!

Or is there another way to connect a remote starter button?

Get someone to sit in it and turn it over?

My compression tester has a max read needle ?!

Yes Adam, after 55 years with car engines I already knew that trick but how can I see if a spark plug is firing while sitting in the car?

Use a separate relay and button and connect direct to the starter solenoid.

I'm lucky, the wife sits in the car and turns the key while I electrocute myself with the plugs

... I could do that or use the lazy start and quickly run around to the front of the car But I still don't know if I have a starter motor relay and if so where it is! I should have one according to the manuals and it would be nice to know just in case I need to know someday! Maybe an extension lead for the plug check!

In the end I just did them one at a time with me running between the lazy start and the engine! I will try a process of elimination on all visible/unidentified relays and if that fails maybe I will wire in a slave relay and tuck it away somewhere.

Start buttons are connected to positive battery and solenoid feed lucar connector.

Yep thanks Wammers, I understand that's how it can be done but I was assuming the relay would be more accessible than the solenoid ... are you saying there is no relay contrary to the manual I have?

Don't have a clue but that is how i have used start buttons for a very long time. Commonly used when adjusting tappets. But then again things were more accessible in bygone times. Modern cars seem to be designed to preclude home maintenance.

Personally, I don't like the L322 colour diagrams but 55 years of working with monochrome circuit diagrams probably means I'm biased

Neither do i. The P38 diagrams are easier to follow.
