I imagine engine mounts on the Tdi and Td5 chassis are in different places. Can you see any trace of old chassis mounts being cut off/ground back?

but, if its a tdi chassis with a td5 engine, there would be evidence of engine mounts being moved?

Yes, hopefully, for the OPs sake.
MOT history goes back to 2006, it did fail on parts of the body work having sharp edges and dangerous. Did hardly any miles between 2006 - 2008 then is off the road until 2014. The mileage in 2008 was 100,008 2014 167,000.

So between 2008 and 2014 it was 'off the road' but did 67000 miles? Could just be the change of Odo from mechanical Tdi to LCD Td5.
I am no expert, but trying to hand stamp steel box section in the middle like that is (bar steward will bounce the stamp off the surface) and keep a straight line is almost impossible diy.
If the numbers match, rock and roll no worries.
Where is the fuel tank and the filler neck?

I think the number is a genuine one, the question is really does it belong where it is. Has a section been cut out and re-welded?
To my mind its a very clever ringer job, the rest looks td5 but could have a mish mash of other bits as well.
I'd like to get under it and have a nosey.

VIN state 90.
the fuel tank is under the rear, So it looks to me like it is a ringed td5.
I would be stripping the front chassis and checking for weld under the paint.
Find the TD5 engine number.
Also is there the VIN plate on the passenger side of the dash by the windscreen?

Fuel tank and filler neck in TD5 postion.
Can you take some photos of the engine mounts on the chassis, rear cross member where its welded to the chassis and a few general chassis pics to see if its a tdi front end stuck onto a td5 rear.
If you can satisfy yourself that its not a cut up job then I'd probably live with it.

If you were to cut the entire front end off then weld it back together where the bulkhead outriggers attach it would be fairly easy to hide.

If you paid for a history check does that not come with a certain level of insurance?
Is it not possible that someone legitimately bought a scrap TD5 and just swapped the bit's over?
